Playing a picture slideshow but pictures are zoomed

When I load pictures that are not in landscape aspect ratio the pictures really zoom in and loose quality. My family always holds their iphone up and down instead of on its side so their pictures are portrait instead of landscape.

Is there any way to stop zooming in to fit the screen and just show the full photograph with some dead space on the sides?

So far this is not possible, but I added a request to our user request list for slideshow picture options.
