Please Allow Spotify OFFLINE

Thanks for Spotify Integration, BUT

Please let us play our offline tracks, for those of us without internet connection.
Let us play the songs in our Playlists that we have downloaded from Spotify

I do understand you have to check to see if we are active subscribers to allow us to play our tracks, but maybe just have your app require you go online just once a week let's say,
After 1 week your app would not allow Spotify without internet,

The way it is now, i can't play my tracks on my Wifi Only ipad when in the car, or in places without wifi :-(

Rest assured, guys, we know how important this to you. Unfortunately, there's nothing we can do about "sandboxing".
We'd let you know immediately, if there would be any chance for us do implement Spotify Offline Playlists.

    • Stop LYING!!!!!!
The IS something you can do against "sandboxing".
Release the standalone version for purchase and donwload from your own algoriddim servers and you're done. Stop LYING!

"Developers found themselves having to make a hard choice – severely degrade the functionality of their software or leave the MAS. Consequently, entire categories of apps cannot be distributed via the MAS because they cannot be sandboxed without crippling their feature set."

      Source: http://blog.helftone.com/mac-app-stor...

Algoriddim just turned to another completely money driven company.
Stop eating our nerves with false information.

As Stuart Ross says 4 days ago:

"Thanks for that, bachya, it would appear that Algoriddim endorse your explanation. However, I do think they should make it clearer that a *permanent* internet connection is required, and should use more explicit wording such as "Offline mode is NOT supported."

You guys at algoriddim should be sued for providing unclear information leading customers in the wrong direction.

I URGE anyone, who got bought into this eyewash, to get their money back from the mac app store.

Alogiriddim should see then for a proper solution. Actually the situation is not acceptable.

  • I’m HAPPY
    1
    SOLVED!!!!
Hi people... Hi always wanted offline access of spotify.
Today I kind of solved it. It's possible. But it requires some means...

I've always been having problems in the club where I play beacause the Internet connection of the club is crap. But then I solved it. And when I solved it, I also solved the "Offline question" of the Spotify.
Tonight, I'm Sharing the solution with you.
So... First things first... You need a phone with a 4G connection. For example (Samsung Galaxy S4 and above) or iPhone 5 and above. (maybe a 3G must be enough, but just by safety, get a 4G)
In my cell phone subscription, they given me 1GB of Internet per month.
If you have been using djay frequently as I do (I use everyday), you probably noticed that, when you play a song for the first time, it takes some time, but, if you play it again, it loads very fast. So, the answer is YES, the song DOES GET CACHED in djay when you play it for the first time.
Each time you load a song in djay, it need to verify that spotify session is active, so, you'll need Internet anyway, is at this point where the cell phone comes to play.
If you're a freelancer, or you have a crap internet where you usually play, you need Internet fast and stable.
Use your phone to do a "Portable hotspot". The phone should use a data connection to get Internet.
Connect your pc to the phone wirelessly. Then, each time you load a song, if it has been previously played, it will just consume let's say some KB's checking if you spotify subscription is active. It WON'T DOWNLOAD THE SONG!
So, instead of creating a spotify offline playlist. Do this...
    1) Create the playlist you wish to play "offline", choose the songs and add them. You dont need to choose the "Available offline" option of Spotify.
    2) At your home, with a good Internet connection, load each one of them to a djay deck. djay will CACHE the songs.
    3) At you gig place, use your phone as a hotspot to acess the songs.

    DONE!

Worked perfectly for me. I've been playing for over 5 hours now. Not a single problem. And I consumed just a couple MB's.

I DJ'd with this set up and I had trouble about an hour in , songs in the spotify playlist failed to start. I had to switch back to iTunes where I had the 'bankers' set of songs in reserve. The host then changed the wifi key, threw off everyone at the party except me, and we got things going again. So where as I'm not demanding off line as I hate playlists , I DJ and pick songs just a few tracks ahead. What I would like is a robust buffer, so I could 'fetch' songs and know they are complete and ready in advance. Perhaps upto 20 songs held in the device, which can delete if the app is closed etc. but like the others here, I can't take the iPad and the beatbox out again with Spotify until I can garauntee that songs I load in the playlist will actually play.

  • I’m frustrated
    4
I'm amazed at how caustic this conversation has become (as if Algoriddim has personally offended people, kidnapped their children, etc. by not implementing such "simple and essential" functionality). Claims like "because you can do it with iTunes, of course you can do it with Spotify" or "I can't believe you haven't made this a top priority" are ignorant and insulting.

So, as a developer myself and in the interest of defending the hard-working Algoriddim dev team a bit, let's set the record straight.

    The Short Version

Algoriddim can only cache data if Spotify allows it. It has nothing to do with the fact that the Spotify app (built by Spotify) can cache that same data.

    The Long Version

    1. "Sandboxing" refers to how apps can communicate/transfer/etc. their data between one another. In this case, it's simple: iOS will not allow you to transfer arbitrary data from the Spotify app to djay – period. It's irrelevant if you've downloaded offline tracks within the Spotify app; Apple's OS restrictions prevent that cached data from being transferred to djay. Done. This isn't Algoriddim's fault; Apple made the decision and Apple owns the ecosystem.

    2. If we consider how djay currently grabs Spotify data – via a direct connection to Spotify's API (by means of their iOS SDK, I'm assuming) – then it's easy to understand that caching within djay can only occur through that same API. A quick glance at the SDK reference guide shows some promising signs that Spotify allows caching of its data. That said, (a) the documentation is sparse, (b) it's unclear exactly what may be cached, and (c) it may be the case that even if this is possible, Spotify restricts which developers can use the functionality (they've been known to do this in the past).

So, gang: let's all just chill out a bit. Algoriddim is working their butts off and have provided a staggering amount of functionality to this app; they do not deserve the unfounded criticism (or condescending tone) they've received. Being able to DJ any track on Spotify anywhere, anytime, without any regard to network connectivity is a heavy-duty request that would have been downright laughable just a few years ago. Perhaps you should consider buying the tracks you need for offline iTunes usage if this is so crucial to you.

If you continue to feel the need to make your voice heard, might I suggest that you (politely) inform Spotify of how much this would mean to you? They control the API, which means they control how easy (or feasible) it is for djay to incorporate functionality like this.

    • Thanks for that, bachya, it would appear that Algoriddim endorse your explanation. However, I do think they should make it clearer that a *permanent* internet connection is required, and should use more explicit wording such as "Offline mode is NOT supported."

Also, it would be good to hear more from them here. I have seen only very brief comments and it shouldn't take a user such as bachya to have to explain what's going on. Additionally, some sort of real update about what they are doing to try to solve the issue would be appreciated; maybe to tell us that they have actually communicated with Spotify, and to give us their response and any timeframe for a possible workaround or solution.
    • +1 Totally agree with Stuart Ross, ok so it basically doesn't work without wifi so just be transparent about it and make potential customers aware of it BEFORE we part with our hard earned cash. I already own DJay 1 & 2 and only bought Pro because of the Spotify feature....didn't make the shocking discovery it was unusable until I arrived at the venue. EPIC FAIL. I want a refund

I can understand not allowing this for iOS devices. Not for nothing I am not sure how reliable that would be anyways. Djay Pro should by all means get this feature.

I am going to level with you here. I am from a more professional arena and I can promise you the ONLY reason Djay is even being mentioned on this level is the Spotify integration and the recent CDJ-2000Nexus update.

Two bits of advice get the scrolling waveforms going with the CDJ-2000Nexus's and get the cache support for Djay Pro. I can also promise you this is single-handedly deterring other professional DJ's who influence. The reasons the iOS apps even came to fruition or are relevant. Shit rolls downhill if you know what I mean.

  • For anyone looking for a resolution to this issue:
I have posted a request on the Spotify Community Forum .

It's a request to create something called Spotify Pro. This advanced subscription would allow third parties to cache, sample, and perform offline activities. This would be a resolution to the issue which holds Djay Pro back. Please consider supporting this request in the Spotify community. Hopefully they will consider this for the future.

Sadly, it appears that Apple Music is not the answer. Although the new Apple Music allows you to download songs to your iDevice for offline playback, Algoriddim's Djay app still does not play those DRM files. Bummer! Are we any closer to a solution?

Since Spotify already has offline mode, it clearly contains the music. I assume it is in encrypted files - to avoid easy copying - that is in some form of file or files. Djay markets the app as integrated with Spotify, and it is natural to believe that when Djay says it is integrated, it is fully integrated. But it is not. If it were truly fully integrated, Djay would be able to access any music Spotify can access. But Djay can not access all the music that Spotify can; Djay can not access Spotify's offline (downloaded) music. You can call it cache or whatever you like; you can blame it on "sandboxing," Apple IOS policy, or whatever; but the bottom line is Djay marketed it as having access to all of Spotify's music, and it does not have access to Spotify's downloaded (offline) music. Me and thousands of customers have been misled by Djays false marketing, and all we ask is that Djay fix the problem, not refund thousands of customers.

Also, if you're going to create a product and charge $50 for it, why is there no specific written guide to walkthrough the use of the features? How am I supposed to learn to use it by watching some YouTube video with no words and 1 second jump cut edits? It's ridiculous. I have to search through the support pages to figure out how to use the product?!

In all fairness Djay was $50 before they even allowed Spotify use at all so not the best approach I would say. They did the work and offered it to us for the price of............... FREE. If anything I see this as an added bonus. No Professional DJ should rely on the use of music they don't own anyways. As a matter of fact depending on what level you play at is a quick way to get into trouble. Furthermore at $50 this makes Djay Pro the cheapest DJ software I have ever purchase to date so let's not pretend like it is breaking the bank.

Don't get me wrong I firmly believe this should be an option to play around with but coming across like they owe us or promised us this in some way just is not accurate IMO.

I'm replying here to make some things clear about the "truth" of "sandboxing" and software companies.

Breaking down everything that algoriddim was whining about "sorry we can't help, blame sandboxing" in one single FACT: "Developers found themselves having to make a hard choice – severely degrade the functionality of their software or leave the MAS. Consequently, entire categories of apps cannot be distributed via the MAS because they cannot be sandboxed without crippling their feature set."

    http://blog.helftone.com/mac-app-stor...

In short: if algoriddim would provide their desktop software via their own distribution, djing your spotify offline tracks would be no problem at all.

It's pure marketing decisions by algoriddim. At our expenses and nothing less.

  • I’m hopeful
Can I suggest something to the devs? I don't think the issue is having internet connection as such (using cellular data or just using my phone as an access point), the problem is using a lot of data to download every song.
I noticed that Djay 'remembers' the tracks after they've been played once. Would it be possible to download a whole playlist, for example? That way, the cellular network would only be used for authentication to Spotify, and not for downloading all the tracks.

    Roberto
    • "Would it be possible to download a whole playlist, for example?"

This is exactly what is being asked for in this thread................
    • And this bevahior prooves, that djay is capable to cache songs!
You CAN'T use it fully offline, but you can cache songs to not being downloaded on the gig.
It would be great if this precaching is a supported feature. Download a whole list, but then still need some bits of internet to communicate with spotify... that's ok. We can use mobile for that. But give us a chance to cache the BIG data of the songs!

So I raised the idea on the spotify forum again:

and it would be great, if all the spotify premium users here in the forum take their existing account, login to the spotify forum and vote for this idea.

Maybe it helps to push it.

    • You pay for your connection all the same and it is JUST as secure as a dongle. There is literally almost no difference between the two but the fact remains this is NOT as beneficial as having proper offline support...................

  • Can I just clarify.... Does the app allow you to play offline music without streaming it or does the whole offline thing not make a difference when using the app? (if connected to the internet)

  • Hi, developers!

I love what U have done with the CDJ integration, even though it sometimes get fucked up (i had my third deck using the DAc and sound card of my second deck a couple of times, but when I reboot it's all good! =)

As for the Spotify offline I was just wishing for an update – are you making any progress? It sure would be a great feature!

Also, for the record, I'm with Bachya – all of those who's angry and don't know how to behave, pull yourselves together, tell the developers you're sorry, and politely post your feedback and/or requests! All they have done is make an affordable and rather cool software for DJing, and if it doesn't please you, then feel free to use another software – good luck in finding what you need elsewhere!!

Thank you for any and all answers to my request,

    Erik

VOTE for djay access to Spotify offline!!!
Dear brothers and sisters, please go to Spotify Community and vote for idea of letting djay access to Spotify offline trucks. Success of this unique feature mainly is dependent on our kind request inside Spotify community.
This is second try within Spotify community, because first try was canceled due to small numbers of voters within definitive time.
    So, please do it now!
Look for ides - Ability to use offline Playlists in the Djay app

  • I’m Disappointed
Oh dear, I was also a bit disappointed on using DJay Pro for my first DJ set and finding I was unable to access offline Spotify songs. Whatever the reason, this has turned out to be a big downside for my new system. What was also annoying was not being able to test out DJay Pro in a real situation before buying as the demo version would only let me play about 10 songs before shutting down mid song and asking if I wanted to buy the full version. If that hadn't been the case, I could've found out the real situation before purchasing the software. I might not have bought it, but it would have been fairer. So Algoriddm, even if the reason for not being able to access offline spotify songs is not your fault - you could have helped!

I'm now hoping there will be a way round it or most venues I DJ at will have wifi. I really don't want to have to purchase all the songs I use for DJing and put them into itunes, not only because of the expense (I already pay for Spotfy premium!) but because of the time it takes to transfer songs and re-make playlists that I have already made in Spotify.

  • I do believe we have more than 100+ on the spotify forum that are also pushing this. Any of you that have not gone over there and added your support please do. I was told we needed at least 100 over there for Spotify to pay any attention. So now that we are there it is the time to add your vote and make it count. https://community.spotify.com/t5/Live... I am not holding my breath but I do have my fingers and toes crossed that Spotify and Algoriddim can get together on this and see the mutual benefit for both of there customers.

  • I Love the Spotify integration. Thank you for doing this.. Offline would be awesome! but also if you could implement folders in playlist. I make folders in spotify to structure out my playlist and they all run together when opening in dJay Pro.

I think spotify, could charge a small fee, for using songs off line.
So in this way do not harm the copyright and we can use our lists, as we do when we use the Spotify application directly.

  • I bought the DJAY2 and DJAY PRO app for both iPhone, iPad and Mac the other day and I really like the layout. Today only minutes before the show I got aware of that my downloaded Spotify playlist didn't work on my iPad PRO and there was no internet connection at the place! After a while I got a really slow 3G connection working shared from my iPhone witch made it possible to at least struggle through the setup.
The Spotify integration is really really nice but it is almost useless without offline-support. You never now where there is or isn't a internet connection at the place you arrive to. Please work hard to get offline-support, it would make this app really awesome an useful.

When do you think there is a fix for this?

    Regards Fredrick
