Previewing without pulling on the deck

It would be great to have the ability to preview (pre-cue) songs without pulling them on the deck.

The best way would be: choose a song in the library or in the Automix list then cmd+click (or right mouse click) > preview song

Another way could be a separate preview player (like Traktor), but it’s not as handy as the first option.

PS. I use the Automix list a lot for creating set lists on-the-go while DJ’ing (I don’t mix). It’s quite inconvenient to preview a song, when you already have lined up some songs in the Automix list.

I couldn’t agree more. There are multiple topics about this issue already so there’s definitely a need for it. Once you have setup an Automix playlist, previewing tracks becomes seriously inconvenient.

Too bad this basic feature is still not present in the today released DJAY 4.1

@Warren: this topic is about djay for Mac, so the IMPLEMENTED tag is incorrect

Great news! I just took djay 2 for a test, it rocks! (especially the previewing feature!)

Currently have a work around for this however it does require use of the headphone Jack on your Mac along with an external Audio Output. So here’s how I do it. Here’s the audio setup

Mac Audio (iTunes) → Built-in Audio (use earbuds in one ear)
Main Audio (dJay) → Outboard Main
Pre-queue Audio → Outboard Headphone

Then I switch between dJay and iTunes as needed (works best with two screens.) iTunes will continue to use the built-in audio even though DJay is using the audio outputs of your midi device.

I realize this is like using duck tape to fix a BMW but you got to do what you got to do to make things work.

This feature was added in djay Pro:

Hi,

We’re proud to present djay 2. This feature is now implemented in this new version.

Oh sorry, just realized this request was originally for djay for Mac. Don’t worry, all developments fro iOS will surely benefit the Mac version.

Thanks, already corrected it.

Original request - TWO years ago.

I agree this is something that is very much missing in DJAY. Its missing functionality like that that makes DJAY just a fun little program to play with but useless for any major DJ’ing…

AS FAR AS I CAN SEE IT’S WHAT SEPARATES IT FROM BEING CONSIDERED AS A PRO SOFTWARE. NOW THAT ITUNES ALLOWS FOLDERS WITHIN THE PLAYLIST IE CRATES.
ANDERS I HOPE YOU ARE READING IT’S A FEATURE THAT HAS BEED ASKED OVER AND OVER AGAIN.

Add a preview feature to the Song selection area of Djay for Mac.

Hi,

Please add a preview feature to the song selection area.

This would help me find just the right song quickly, by letting me easily preview any song showing in the song selection area to the headphones.

For example, let’s say I have clicked on the “Playlists” Icon, am viewing the iTunes “Music” playlist, typed something into the search box and I’m now looking at a list of songs. Further, let’s imagine that I’ve already got a song playing on Table-1, which is getting near the end.

It would be super cool if I could double-click on any song in the selection list and have it play to my headphones. Once I find just the right song for the occasion, I could then drag the song to Table-2 without needing to change my level settings, I could just hit play at the right moment.

Thanks,
Tim

Pre-cueing feature without loading track into a deck.

the only reason that prevents me from using djay is that I can’t precue tracks directly without loading them into a deck. Especially when autoplay is active.
Will this Feature be added in the near future?
