Songs momentarily freeze

Songs momentarily freeze. In Automix songs momentarilay freeze. The turntable stops rotating during the freeze. The error is randam and can not be reproduced at the same places. Seems like a buffering issue. It was much worse in one of the 3.xx versions yet after the upgrade problems remain. Running from internal hardisk and cable via headphone output to amplifier

    This has happened to me several times as well, almost one time per gig, sometimes twice. I've tried different things to troubleshoot the problem, even restarted the computer so nothing but djay is running and turned off the wireless. Still skips. What happens when it skips is the turntable spins very fast and no sound comes out, then eventually it catches up with itself and resumes playback. There is nothing you can do while the song is skipping except stare dumbly at your computer. Sometimes the skip lasts for a good 10 seconds, which is an eternity when you are DJ-ing in front of a crowd. This problem alone is making me consider using a different program, even though I love djay and have used it from Version 1.

  • This has been going on for over a year, they've claimed that they were working on it, I sent them film of it happening a year and a half ago, this is not their priority, perhaps they want you to buy the next addition.

  • This happens because you are using automix. Even the best automix transition sounds embarrassingly bad. How hard is it to find the "1", set a cue point, then drop it on the "1" of the outgoing song?????????

  • I wouldn't mind using automix during dinner and/or cocktail hour. Would be very handy to set it to auto while I have to walk out of the room to line up the bridal party for introductions.

    I've had the freeze this Friday night while doing regular mixing and using the filter.

    @Tucker, why or how automix is being used is irrelevant. The fact is that there has been an open defect on this for an excessive period of time and it's the top issue reported.

    Automix is used by many DJs, such as myself, during dinner time to ensure no gaps between tracks. Nothing to do with "smooth mixing". I would not suggest any DJ actually use automix for actual dance time, but that is up to them. The point is, there is a defect here with a promoted product feature and Algoriddim has done nothing about it.

    The only logical response from Algoriddim at this point has been to use djay pro which is not what their consumers want to hear.

  • That's valid. I have had a few brief versions of this glitch happen to me during actual mixing (which brought me here in the first place) so there's something def going on. But, I was at a spot a few weeks ago and there was a DJ performing contemporary hip hop and R&B for a relativly full dance floor and he was full on in automix mode. The first thing that caught my ear was a strangely timed spin back and once I started train spotting his situation it was undeniable. He mixed all night by just curating a playlist and letting the software mix. Every transition was basically wrong. Because of that experience, I'm salty.

    I use Dj Pro since his release date and I'm facing the issue too. I have already explained which was my experience and idea of the causes in another comment above. I'm tired to repeat it sorry.
    The only way to reduce the number of freezes during the gig is to run pre-analysis to all the iTunes database before the gig itself (it's a long job I usually run it in the afternoon). If theBPM songs are pre-calculated it seems to have less issue.

  • Bonjour, j'ai suivi le conseil d'Alessandro, j'ai analysé mes morceaux avec Djay pro et je n'ai plus de problème, la première analyse est longue si vous avez beaucoup de musique, avant chaque soirée je relance une analyse et cela est beaucoup plus rapide. Le problème qui me rendait fou a complètement disparu. J'ai eu 5 soirées et tous va bien..... J'espère que cela restera ainsi !

  • I've had this issue the last 3 or 4 w'ends while out playing. Random events as well. Sometimes while finding another track, sometimes when nothing is happening. I always shut down any other apps and also wi-fi but the glitch will happen at least once during a set.

      Could you give us feedback about the following troubleshooting steps:
      1. Keep your OS X and djay Pro updated.
      2. Check if your controller is running with the latest firmware.
      3. If your Mac is using a non-SD hard drive, disable the Sudden Motion Sensor
        • Double-click on the Macintosh HD icon on your desktop (this would be your system drive if you have renamed it to something else).
        • Go to the Applications folder.
        • Go to the Utilities folder.
        • Double-click on Terminal.
        • Type sudo pmset -a sms 0 and press Return (typing in ’0′ disables it).
        • Enter your administrator when prompted.
        • Type sudo pmset -g to verify that this has been applied. To re-enable Sudden Motion Sensor:

        • Go back to Terminal following the above steps.
        • Type sudo pmset -a sms 1 and press Return (typing in ’1′ re-enables it).
        • Enter your administrator when prompted.
        • Type sudo pmset -g to verify that this has been applied.
      4. If you connect an external hard drive right before mixing, please wait till the Spotlight indexing is being finished
      5. Check your USB cable or try with another cable.

    • Hi Lukas, appreciate the response and troubleshooting steps. I will try the recommendations when I've had a chance to Time Machine back up my current set up. Btw specs are - MBP early 2011. OSX 10.10.4. Djay Pro 1.2.1. I'm reluctant to upgrade OSX as my other music production DAW's are older versions that run without issue with the OSX. Thanks again.

    I'm sorry to notice you that the issue just came back. I faced it last weekend in 2 consecutive djsets.
    The only change I had was the installation of the latest iTunes release from the apple store.
    I think you should synch with their dev team in order to understand what is happening.

      the issue it's always the same, com'on...
      The way to repro it is the following:
      - have a large iTunes DB (at least 100 Gb)
      - start playing by using the Automix queue without using the automix feature
      - whenever you want start automix and stop it after a couple of songs or more
      - continue to play the songs from the queue without automix feature
      In a short while you will face the error.

      I'm using Reloop Mixtour and 2011 MBP. As some have already commented, I've switched wifi off and make sure that Djay Pro is the only program running.

      I have many playlists based on genre, albums and specific venues. At least 6 - 8 of these are my go to gig sets which I bounce between depending on the venue and audience. I often use the que list to highlight favs in playlists so I can find songs quickly during a set. Would the amount of songs in the 'cue' cause issues?

  • I Have reproduced the problem and it only happens to me when the smoke machine kicks in has to be some kinda surge sending a drain on the power ... don`t know but its annoying even more to learn that this problem has been going on for quite sometime.. i never use the Automix feature in Gigs so its definitely not that for ME!!

  • I've started using DJay Pro this summer (in August) and I always, always have this problem, usually happening only once per session (but impossible to guess when it will happen!)!
    I have tried all the suggested solutions mentioned in this topic, without success! Before DJay Pro, I have used for a while Serato Intro (that came with my DJ controller) and never a problem like this happened!... so it is a DJay Pro specific malfunction and since this trend has at least 4 years, that means that Algoriddim programmers are not paying attention enough to solve the problem???!!! Hope it is not the case, because it's a pity, I love the DJay Pro interface, the functionality, etc. , but I need it to be more reliable!
    I suspect the problem is or insufficient buffer memory or something resulting of the interaction between DJay Pro and iTunes library...

    My computer is a MacBook Pro 17'', with OS-X Maverick, the iTunes is instaled with the library on the main disk that is a SSD harddrive. The DJ controller is a Pioneer DDJ-SB2.

    * * * PROBLEM SOLVED * * *
    I've been playing with different connections to try to resolve the Song Freezing Issues and I finally solved the problem. Your Mac is running many programs in the background and using a lot of power to run those programs. When the DJay Pro Freezes up it is looking for power to keep the controller running smoothly and without that power being supplied CONSTANTLY it will freeze up. To resolve this problem I went to Amazon and purchased a Powered USB Hub with Included Power Adapter and I have not had any SONG Freezing issues since.

    Make sure that the powered USB Port that you purchase has the capabilities of transferring Data and don't confuse it with a USB Port that only charges devices and not transfers the Data from the Laptop to the controller.   • I have the same intermittent problem with freezing mid gig and my controller is the approved Beatpad and Beatpad 2. Both of which are mains powered, so don't rely on drawing power from the USB socket. In this instance the solution provided above of the powered USB hub will make no difference to the problem i'm afraid, so it's not solved unfortunately... :/

    • Drawing power from USB socket may not be the original cause for the problem, but I would try this possible solution anyway, even if this redundancy seems not to be "logical"!

      With my Pioneer DDJ-SB2, prepared for the Serato Intro, this problem never happened when using Serato, so the Algoriddim programmers are of course doing something wrong! If Algoriddim does not want to lose their reputation, they should face seriously this problem, instead of giving some tips here as if the problem was the users being doing something wrong!
    • I don`t use a USB power socket but I am trying the solution Luis suggested....don`t have anything to loose...
      I have noticed the problem arises when these are in place

      1) poor WIFI connection (even spotify does not want to load..using verizon JETPAK)
      2) when mac book is charging
      3) when I use my smoke machine

      But it is very disappointing that after all the talk that we are trying to solve the problem ...there comes the "official Rep" to be sorry .... as far as the specs I have given them all my specs and all they want isa video of it happening... like you have that time as you are in the middle of a gig....

    This issue is still occurring. (Nov 2016).

    It has nothing to do with Automix. It has nothing to do with Spotify tunes only, although with Spoify loading, it seems to happen moreoften, however, I've gotten this error loading my MP3s as well.

    The issue: A selected live playing tune suddenly stops playing or stops loading or loads too slowly.

    The solution: Algoriddim has still not offered comment or a solution rendering DJay 2 an unprofessional piece of software and cannot be used at any real show or gig. If a DJ controller app consistently has the same error and the manufacturer offers no solution, time to move to another company.

  • Unfortunately, this is still occurring for me as well.

    No other programs are open, desktop has minimal to no files and Dj Pro is the only app running.

    Again, I am wondering if this has something to do with iTunes and the latest updates?

    Problem had been resolved in the last major update and the only thing I can think of that's been changing is iTunes.

    Lukas, has this been looked into as a possible cause of the re-occurring issue?

    • The only things it occurs to me as possible causes is a problem between iTunes and DJay Pro communication or between DJay Pro and controller communication. In all the cases, it must be a programing bug, because other softwares like Serato intro don't have this problem in a similar situation. One of the times it occurred the two deck were playing simultaneously (I was pre-cueing) and both tracks on both decks didn't stopped, by the contrary, they seemed to be "fast forwarding" for a second, with a consequent second silence, during the gig!!! :-/
      Usually it happens with me during the initial 3 songs or so of a gig, so i usually start automix earlier to be able to have a nice and clean session! ;-)

    I will try too, but when it happens, its in a middle of a wedding and the last thing u r thinking about is grabbing your phone and videoing something. When this happens, its just loke a cd skipping. Really embarrassing

    this is what I mean ... Thats all what this company offers the same lame information " make a video" are you for real in a a Gig the last thing you want to do or can do is video ... and what will a video do rather than show you that it freezes .Do you think we are making this up.

    Yesterday my one stopped syncing my songs to beat mix i had to stop the software are restart it.. really embarrassing.

    Its like they copy and paste the response DO SOMETHING!!!

    • We understand that this is annoying but the complexity of this issue due to the diversity of each setup is not mergeable. Therefore each users issue needs to be treated separately in order to find patterns.

      Regarding your beat mixing, was that freezing the songs?

      I hope you understand, why we need to do this.

    • Lukas dont get me wrong I understand that its not just an easy fix but on our side it seems that there is no action to help it. As Djs it is very embarrassing and taking videos is really not an option...

    As someone who coded database interactions for webpages in a past life, I'd ask that you cut the developers some slack. They're asking for more information so they can replicate the issue and figure out which of the hundreds/thousands lines of code is causing the issue is so they can fix it. "It doesn't work" doesn't help.

    If you want to be helpful, try to force the software to do the same thing while you're not in the middle of a gig and feeling embarrassed and irritated. When it does it, try to make it do it again (several times), then report on your computer system, what it was doing, what external hardware you were using.

    That's unfortunately what chasing software bugs is like. Otherwise it's a wild goose chase since the developers aren't sitting there over your shoulder watching what you're doing. It sucks, yes, but the software isn't an island unto itself since it's interacting with iTunes, Spotify, etc. A change externally by the developers to those programs could cause something in this program to suddenly stop working since the first time the APIs were integrated. It could also be a multitude of other things - weak wi-fi signals, issues with powered hardware - who knows. The point is, trying your best to describe what was going on when you had the issue will at least allow other people (if not the developer) to try and replicate the issue to pinpoint the problem.

    See we have given them "slack" close to four years of it .We have given them all kinds of scenarios, I personally have email Algoriddim with all the Specs of my equipment, we just and I say we because if you READ all the blogs there is quite a number of DJs that have been blogging have not just said "It doesn't work" so i understand where you come here telling us like we are not helping enough.

    I want to know also to explain me how to "force the software" to do the same thing, cause I sure don`t know how to do it.

    We paid for this software and it is making us look bad in the field .. That Mrs Bork is unacceptable.
    • When I mention "force the software to do the same thing" I mean duplicating the problem several times in a row. It may mean sitting down with the same equipment and same music, repeating the same actions you took just before the freeze happened (as best you can remember) and seeing if you can make the freeze happen again.

      Bug chasing is a bit like the scientific method - measurable and repeatable bugs are the easiest to fix. Until you can figure out what the trigger is, the bug is still intermittent and more difficult for developers to figure out. While, yes, people are sending them their specs of their equipment, they may not have been able to identify that common factor that is causing the software issue.

      I agree that it needs to be fixed, but I also am trying to be a part of the solution as best I can by mentioning that it's sometimes more than just the equipment specs. Hopefully you take my post in the spirit of trying to get everyone to work toward a solution.

  • I don't think it's actually interacting with the iTunes app. I believe it's only reading the iTunes library file to get the playlists and locations of your music files.

    Some years ago I have worked for a while for a multimedia company as a project coordinator, so I know it is not easy to detect the cause for intermittent problems in software programs! But it seems that some users (including myself) here are available to help Algoriddim to find the solution too, so we can work together!
    When I read the posts of other users, I have the idea that it is possible to have different causes resulting in the same consequence: a second or so of silence. But it seems that other users have even worst scenarios, such as complete frozen programs, needing to restart the program and this is not my case at all! Maybe someone of Algoriddim should put some order here and organize different variants of the problem. For example, in my case, this period of silence only happens once in an entire session, during the initial songs. The program doesn't "freeze", because the waves animation on the DJAy Pro interface keeps running (actually, it seems to be running even faster!).
    Because the use of powered HUB seems to reduce sometimes the frequency this problem (at least in my case and in the case of some other users too, since the initial idea for this possible solution was posted here by other person, DJ Gerald), I would say that the problem seems to be from using a DJ controller: not enough power supplied by the computer? It cannot be the main cause, because it seems the problem can occur even when feeding the controller with an external USB powered hub... besides that, when using the software distributed with the controller (the Serato Intro, in my case) the problem never happens!
    I would say we can have a communication problem between the DJ controller and the DJay program, such as a time sync problem or wrong MIDI signals interpretation... but I am not a programmer, just guessing based on the info I have until now and because once I saw a similar problem happening with a colleague using Pioneer CD decks and Traktor software, and an error message appeared in his case saying something about "time code error communication".... but this is a completely different situation, I know, but who knows this info helps!

      yes I feel that way too. In general we are trying to gather the information of each user via mail now in order to get some structure in the case. After finding patterns or gathering valid user information we will get back to this thread in order to have a guide.

  • I don't work with a PC but with an ipad, not use itunes or spotify, I always off the wi-fi and no active program. If i use a Powered USB Hub with Included Power Adapter the problem is not continuous but not resolved. i'm very sad

  • Stu Williams have posted here (19 days ago) a similar situations to Mancini Massimiliano: using a tablet instead of a PC, and in the case of Stu using Beatpad 2 controller - necessarily powered externally - the same intermittent bug error!
    This problem never happened to me when doing my tests using the MacBook alone (without DJ controller, using only the keyboard shotcuts). So the problem should be a communication error or wrong interpretation of signals (coming in or going out) between the controller and the tablet/PC!!!!

    Another thing I think I have seen in common among previous posts: the Automix function.

    For those who are having issues, can you respond to this post with a 'yes' if you see this problem happening when you're using the Automix function or 'no' if it's never happened while using Automix. (Also mention if it's happened both when using Automix and not.)

    I'm wondering if this might be one of the commonalities.

    Hello... You people DO realize that this issue has been going on for FOUR years and is it fixed yet? NO!

    I have sent pictures, videos, everything they have asked for and not one fix has been done. They will blame it on "many different configurations" or something like that but the fact is, they just can't fix it.

    They have now resorted to erasing most of my posts that speak the truth. They don't like when I say that they simply don't know how to fix it. It makes NO sense when other software, that has MANY more features, is updated weekly but we wait for 8 months for updates and the the problems still exist.

    Read this quick because the WILL erase it. Keep the pressure on them or demand a refund. It's that simple!

    I gave up and moved on but I still have an investment in the software, so I check back occasionally to see if anything changes. Nope, still the same.

    When your music stops in front of hundreds or thousands of people, you will be as mad as I am. Or, when it stops in front of a bride dancing with her father... They tell me that their priorities are in order. Four years later, no fix... What do you think?

    We found that audio dropouts and similar issues are almost always caused by shaky USB connections (to either your DJ controller / audio interface or also external hard drives), or incompatible firmware/drivers. Unfortunately we know it can be difficult pinpointing an exact cause, but if you follow the recommendations given in the article you should be avoiding the most common issues.
