Djay to Djay Pro ... Discounted Upgrade?

I’ve been using Djay both on my Macbook Pro and iPhone since June 2014 and just purchased Djay Pro though wished there was a special upgrade price for those who already purchased Djay earlier.

P.S. I originally bought the laptop/desktop version of Djay in June because I thought, incorrectly that it synced also with Spotify like the iPhone version that I bought/tested first.

I send them an email and got this back:

"Hi Frankie,

Thank you very much for contacting us.

For our loyal customers, we decided to put djay Pro on sale in the Mac App Store for only $49.99 (40% OFF).
http://www.algoriddim.com/store/djay-mac
This means new customers get the same price as our loyal customers and we realize this might seem unfair at first.
Unfortunately, we have no way of distinguishing between existing and new customers in the App Store.
So we had to decide: do we give everyone a discount or NO ONE gets a discount? For our loyal customers,
we decided to accept the consequence of “less profit” and we reduced the price for a limited amount of time.

We have put our hearts and hard work in djay Pro for Mac and we believe that an upgrade price of $49.99
is incredibly fair. We listened to all our fans’ requests and worked hard to implement requested features like: Spotify Integration, Colored HD Waveforms, 4-deck mode, and much much more. Put in brief, we have rewritten the entire software from scratch over the past years, djay Pro is a whole new product.

We really hope you understand how much effort and work we put into djay Pro. We also hope you understand our position and why we have to charge the “upgrade fee”.
As mentioned, we are already taking a loss by making it $49.99 on Mac App Store to allow users to upgrade (since new users will only pay $49.99 and not full price).
Also note that the 40% discount you’re receiving is worth about $30, which is already more than djay 4’s original price ($20).

Thanks for your understanding and we hope you enjoy using the new djay Pro as much as we enjoyed creating it!

By the way, the FX pack (Complete pack) costs $9.99. You can then use the FX pack on all your Mac and iOS devices running djay 2 or djay Pro.
Also, djay supports the Vestax Spin but not the Typhoon. However, you can still use your controller by mapping it yourself. Open “Configure” from the “MIDI” menu to start mapping your controller.

Regards,
Warren"

To expensive:
$24.99 I consider a fair price

Bought the Djay app 3 days ago(!). Wrote to Algoriddim to ask about a pro-rated or discounted upgrade to Pro and received this totally unsatisfying/cynical response:

Thank you very much for contacting us, though I’m sorry to hear that you “missed” by just a few days.

Unfortunately, there is no way for us to offer refunds for the App Store. I recommend contacting Apple support directly to ask for a refund for the older version and then you can buy djay Pro. Just make sure to attach a copy of your receipt and explain the situation.

Thank you for your understanding.

Regards,
Warren

To which I wrote back(this morning):

Why do you not offer recent purchasers of Djay a discounted rate to upgrade?

I’ve never heard of a business model that does not make provisions for its customers when they introduce a new product.

All you have to do is issue a voucher.

Please advise.

No response so far…

Hi Jason,

Where do you go to contact Apple app support?

Just Apple support in general?

Thanks,
Howard

Haven’t heard a word from them. Glad they helped you out Jason. I’m not spending another $24.95 after just spending $20 LESS THAN A WEEK AGO.
Not when the intro price for PRO is $50 less 40% = $30 total!

Thanks Jason for directing me to Apple to get a refund for Djay (which I purchased TWO DAYS before Djay Pro came out).

I wrote to App Support 2 or 3 days ago and was a little surprised that I hadn’t had any response (of course it is the holidays!) but at 5 pm today I received the following:

Me too. I don’t want the upgrade for free, but as an already paid customer of dJay for Mac, I’d like the option of a Mac App Store upgrade price, not a “hurry, 40% off at $49.99” only option!

“I won’t be suggesting them to others. Which will cause them to lose money then shut down and nobody will see any updates from them going forward.”

So Jason, threatening will help?

I SERIOUSLY doubt that they would offer a discounted price to ONE person.

If they did, that would NOT be good at all.

So, either Jason is lying or Algoriddim has some SERIOUS explaining to do because I just paid $49 for it.

So, Jason was lying. Because there is NO WAY that they would discount for only ONE person, as the email says.

I have NO PROBLEM with paying $49 for this software, which I have done. However, I would have a SERIOUS problem is they discounted the software for a crybaby like Jason, just so he gets his way.

Let’s see if cry baby Jason posts his email from the company…

Post the actual email then…

Jason would post 10 times a day and now we ask him to prove his discount and he is gone… obviously lying to cause trouble.

I have been with Algoriddim Djay for about 4-5 years now. I have it on my iMac, Macbook Pro, iPhone and iPad. Like everyone else, I feel disappointed. I would like to upgrade but I feel $50 is to much. At $24.99 to upgrade is more of a fair price to me.

Mee too…

I just drop them and went with Traktor Pro

It true I been with them since they came out with djay 3 then I pay for djay 4 and got the ipad version them got the andriod version version and now they asking for $49 more for Pro. It’s about profit then serving their past/current customers.

Yeah, as a business President/CEO in the arts industry, Algoriddim has a great product but terrible business practice and poor customer service. I will not be recommending their product in the future to other; friends, family, colleagues, or fraternal brothers. Too bad to see this Algoriddim.

Yep, sad but true and not spending anymore money on Algoriddim products. If there is a free upgrade like virtually all other programs out there then cool, I’ll upgrade but they already have me for Djay (iPhone & desktop) and now Djay “Pro”.

Yep, like I said above, “Poor service and will not give Algoriddim anymore of my money ahead.”
