How Accurate is djay2 Key Detection??

How accurate is the djay2 key detection system?

Reason im asking is up untill now i have used KeyFinder software to analyse and tag my mp3 files. The Keyfinder software lets you input custom codes and some kind person has done a custom code chart to enable you to use the Camelot System.

The custom code conversion is very accurate, and example of which is as follows:

Keyfinder key Am is 8A on the camelot system (A Minor)

Now if i select say for example Sultans of Swing by Dire Straits it comes back as A minor (8A on Camelot System) BUT on the djay2 is returns a key of C…im guessing this is C Major which on the Camelot System 8B…

confused?? yup me to, i also noticed 2 songs with the same key using the keyfinder/camelot system have differnet keys in djay2…

If anyone else uses either software can you give this a try and see what results you get please (i have attached the custom code chart for keyfinder - Camelot System)

Thanks.

Hi Lee,

C major and A minor are relative keys and have the same key signature. Please see here for more information about relative keys:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Relative…

Oh, yes, you’re right. I said it wrong but meant what you said…

Basically, what I was trying to say is that C Major and A minor have the same key signature…

Updated my reply…

The tonic of C major is C. The tonic of A minor is A so they do not share the same tonic meaning they are not parallel. A minor is the “relative minor” to C major. There are sections in “Sultans of swing” that are played in C major but most of the song is in A minor which makes djay’s key detection of C major a bit odd.

Sultans of Swing? Really??
