Potential disaster (couldn't open djay without internet connection)

Hi, just wanted to report a potentially disastrous ‘bug’ that I encountered a couple of days ago. When I tried to open djay pro on my mac it said something like ‘you used the apple id to download djay on another computer, please sign in’ (can’t remember the exact words). Then I clicked the ‘sign in’ button, and since I wasn’t connected to the internet I just got an error message saying djay couldn’t open. Fortunately I could just connect to the internet, sign into the app store, and then djay opened like it used to, so… not really a problem at the time. And also probably not a problem if it happens again. BUT!! What if I was about to play a gig and for some reason I didn’t have the time or opportunity to connect to the internet!? Then I would be sitting there with a program I payed for fair and square that just wouldn’t open!! Not so cool.

And it’s not true that I downloaded it on another mac, I did sign into the app store on a friends mac in order to download ‘el capitan’ for them, but I’ve double-checked that djay wasn’t downloaded automatically. I understand that you need a verification system so people don’t install the software on a thousand computers… but you should either make it more foolproof in noticing whether I actually did download it somewhere else, or, have some sort of delay before disabling the program, like ‘if you don’t sign in with your apple id within ten days so we can verify that everything is cool, we’re gonna shut djay down, that’s how we roll’.

(I have ‘el capitan 10.11.1’ on this mac as well, and djay pro 1.2.1)

Yes it WAS an app store issue because this happened to me on 2 other apps not DJay related.

…man, you guys are quick to blame Algoriddim!

“djay Pro.app” was purchased using the App Store on another computer. To use “djay Pro.app” on this computer, sign in using the Apple ID and password used to purchase it.

This is impossible I only have one computer. Why is this happening all of a sudden? I’ve been using this program for quite some time now.

The other problem is that when this happened I didn’t have a wifi or other internet connection and wasn’t able to launch the program ! ! !

OS X 10.9.5

On the top of this page it says ‘Algoriddim employees are here to help.’

I can’t get no satisfaction.

How can they let this happen… these guys depend on this software to make a living.

…and yet again. No djay without internet connection. Great that it’s not an algoriddim issue but that won’t help me much the day I don’t have the internet connection. If I can expect it to happen from time to time whenever the app store has an issue, it would be great to have the option of buying djay outside of the app store, omitting the problem altogether…

Because we don’t trust them … Maybe that has something to do with their unreliable behaviour?

I had the same issue when setting up for a gig. Luckily I had my phone and could tether, if not I would have had 150 people very upset coming to talk to me!!

Can someone from algoridum tell us if there is a work around or some way of confirming before setting of for a gig. My fear is I’ll end up somewhere without internet or mobile signal and have no way of playing tunes. Won’t do my reputation any good as a mobile dj

Thanks

Scott

It happened to me as well. Potentially dangerous as you said!

I’m having the same problem as well. We all are. Can you say refund?..lol

Hi Guys,

Thank you guys for sharing your thoughts and experiences and thank you piero for pointing this out i passed this to our development team and will keep you guys up to date.

Cheers,
Lukas E.

At that time there was a problem with the Apple App Store some of you might had to experience as well, which caused this issue.

This should be fixed by now, still it would be great if you could give us a follow up.

Cheers,
Lukas E.

Hi guys,

we are very sorry that you had to experience this. The problem is that the displayed “this app was purchased on another computer.” error is a variation of the “this app is damaged and can’t be opened” error which came up in November 2015. It is caused by an issue with Apple’s Mac App Store certificates, that has since been resolved by Apple. Apart from this issue there is no general requirement for an active Internet connection after djay Pro has been downloaded from the Mac App Store.

If you are experiencing this issue, please try the following to get djay Pro running again:

  • restart your Mac
  • delete djay Pro and re-install via the Mac App Store
  • update to the latest OS X
