Support for Roland DJ controllers?

Are there plans support the DJ controllers from Roland, specifically the Roland DJ 808, DJ 505 or DJ 202. The 202 and 505 seem like they would be great for DJay Pro. Plus I love the idea of being able to have a midi clock out and a drum machine to play with.

Can't believe no reply! The 202 looks to be a good replacement for the DDJ-SB2

I agree that the DJ-202 looks like a better entry level controller than the DDJ-SB2. It has dedicated transport controls, so you dont loose pads to transport controls. Not to mention the dum machine and sequencer.

I second that! Got my DJ-202 today and gave it a go on mapping it for Djay manually. Im not sure I missing something out but I can't manage to get it working properly.
I sorted the mixer out but the platters and the LED feedback is acting weird. For example the scratch platters just jogs the track forward, not back and forth as supposed to.
The play button blinks when pressed and then stays black. If I press the play button in the UI the controller button lights up as supposed to.

Please Algoriddim! Get support for the DJ-202! Although the drum machine is cool I'm not that interested in getting that feature working in DJay.

Sorry for not sending you the mapping. I had to put the 202 on the shelf and go back to my trusty Traktor S4 for a few gigs. I will pick it up again as soon as I get the time for it.

Below angr77 has manage to map it fully though. Give him a pm to see if can share the mapping with you.

I am an employee here at Roland Corporation. Heres the deal. We at Roland have a exclusive contract with Serato. that means we cannot (at leased for now) release midi mappings for our controllers for other DJ Software.

HOWEVER if the Mapping is integrated by a third party (i.e. Algoriddm) then there would be no issues legally, because thats simply decoding and mapping midi controls. (as VirtualDJ did with our controllers)

I myself prefer to use Djay Pro but until we get a release from Algoriddm, Im gonna keep safe and use Serato. Hopefully we get integration soon!

Glad to have you on the forum. Any chance Roland at least provides a class compliant mode for their devices to be compatible with iOS ? It looks like even the 707 has a very limited generic mode not allowing to use it for anything more than inputting a single stereo source through USB. Also I’d love if the boutique and Aira synths included a « generic audio » mode like my Juno DS.

Hi DJAY! Thanks for a great app!

I have played around with the current version of DJAY Pro for Windows. I am using W10 latest version etc on a Microsoft Surface Book 2. I am also using a Roland DJ 202 which I managed to fully get MAPPED with all functions in DJAY PRO.

The only issues I have in W10 is around the built in sound card in DJ 202. It has one input for Mic and 4 outputs for sound. (1 stereo master + the head phone for cueing) - This board is ASIO based.

Both the master and the cue channel shows up in DJAY Pro - but it seems to be impossible to get it work in the right way. You can only choose one of the stereo channels. Someone was mentioning that ASIO Bridge could solve the problem - but I have not tested it.

Another problem in the Windows version of DJAY PRO is the Microphone support - there is no way in hell to get it to work. (And there is no mapped controllers for this...in the app)

Finally - long story - I tried the DJAY PRO version for MAC / OSX. Now the whole thing shows up and works great with my DJ 202. (I need to redo all mapping...)

I can see all 4 channels + the Mic and can get it to work properly.

Roland DJ 202 is a great entry + mid level board - and you should add this to your supported list.

However - the sound card implementation in DJAY PRO Windows 10 version is not fun at all! You should fix this immediatly so it is running just as smooth as in your MAC version of DJAY PRO.

This implementation has nothing to do with my sound card found in DJ 202 or if my board is on your supported list of devices. I also tried with Behringer U-Phoria UMC 404, Zoom U24 - e.g. 4 channel cards with native ASIO support - and I can just say - your sound card implementation in W10 sucks!

Best Regards

Anders

If anybody wants a good start of a midimap file for DJAY Pro for Windows and Roland DJ 202 you can download it here: https://zourman.com/wp-content/upload...

The file location could be problem to find when using these "Universal Apps...like the DJAY PRO has been designed as" but if you locate this directory and place the attached file:

C:\Users\"actual user"\AppData\Local\Packages\Algoriddim.djayPro_ysvet2nbq0e5e\LocalState\Library\Algoriddim\MIDI Mappings

...everything will work fine!

Hi!

I regently made some new tests with the DJAY Pro for Windows and my Roland DJ 202 controller. Using Windows 10 (latest update) and DJAY PRO 1.0.274270.0 the 4 channel sound card (2 ch for main and 2 ch for cuing headphone) in side DJ 202 works GREAT and I could utilize all features!

I am using a Microsoft Surface Pro as computer...and skipped the keyboard...a great setup!

So I have to take back my previous statement that DJAY Pro/DJ 202 don’t work for Windows - it works great!

The only thing I am thinking about to complete my setup is how to get the internal sequencer (Roland have some nice drum machines here) found in DJ 202 to sync its BPM with the Decks BPM in DJAY PRO...Last mission...

Best regards

Anders

Silly me - I just needed to install the drivers. A previous controller of mine was simply plug & play. @angr77 The mapping seems quite comprehensive, is there anything that is missing? Many thanks

Later edit: do you have a mapping file for OS X as well? The mapping you kindly provided has many, many gaps in functionality. Thanks

Why is this not done yet and why is there no response on if it will be done? It's been a year and i'd love to use your product but it seems like you just dont care about the Roland users... :(

My mapping for the DJ 202 (DJ 202)

https://mega.nz/#!3aBFiSiQ!cyfsKH7l9I...

Most features should be there, but there are some changes like the only way to access sampler is though the sequencer, the sampler is now the slicer and the loop section is more like a roll section.

There are some issues with LEDs and I'm trying to see if I can do a workaround to sync the sequencer to a deck (3rd with empty mp3)

Make sure that you use the Internal Mixer and for main output you pick master output for the DJ 202 and for Pre-Cueing you pick the cue output for the DJ 202

If you want to see how everything is setup for the map just read the zip file (or if you cannot read the zip read aboutMapping.txt)

I made some mapping for the DJ808

https://www.dropbox.com/s/2l3mb7o3fuk...

To set a hot cue, hit SHIFT+pad
To jump to a hot cue, just hit the pad
I used the BEAT rotary as a dry/wet knob for FX1
Somehow you have to hit the CUE button twice to monitor the decks (as pre-cueing device i set my laptop headphone in Preferences)

It's a start

Thank you for your feedback.

The DJ 808 and DJ 707 are both on our user request list.

Feel free to push the topic.

Lukas, thanks for your reply, do you know if the 707m actually has a fully featured (access to all in/out) class compliant mode ? Otherwise I bet you're hardly be able to support it on mobile/tablet versions of Djay.

Looks like Roland is also here in these forums.

Personally, I have more generally pushed on Twitter @Roland_US, not only for their mixers but most importantly for their synths and modules, which most usually have proprietary drivers meaning no compatibility with iOS and strong dependance on driver support (eventually means obsolescence in a few years because off the lack of it).

In most cases, it’s not justified by any crazy feature that wouldn’t be possible in class compliant devices.

A good example is the Rane Seventy-two, which does have advanced features such as dual-port DVS capable sound card and displays integrated with Serato software , though it does at the same time provide a class compliant interface.

A good counter-example is Pioneer who always puts proprietary drivers to their higher end mixers and controllers without any real technical reason other than controlling the product lifecycle (a softer way to call ”programmed obsolescence”).

Though I love their products and innovations, it sadly looks like both Pioneer and Roland follow the same kind of strategy in terms of product lifecycle management.
