B2B hardware options with Serato users?

YOUR SUGGESTION:

It would be great if Djay could be used back to back with Serato on a controller or other setup that connects to two laptops. As far as I know, Serato controllers that also support Djay cannot be used with both software simultaneously. This creates a problem where the music has to temporarily stop in a B2B set to go from Serato to Djay. If there is some kind of workaround to this, do let me know. Thank you :folded_hands:

I think your only option is to use Serato alongside the other user, i might be wrong here but i dont think various vendors have ever worked with each other in this manner.

I also cant see how any of them would allocate resource into opening communications with competitors.

Yeah. I believe that is the case now. I love Djay and its innovative features; it’s more affordable than Serato but is more powerful in many aspects. If only we had the option to keep using it when B2Bing with other DJs that use Serato. Maybe that could indirectly boost Djay’s popularity. It doesn’t seem likely that they would prioritise this feature or look at working with Serato, but OneLibrary was released last year, so perhaps this is still possible

Ive played many gigs with many DJs over the years so i just run all the software concurrently. I have Engine setup for when im gigging with my Prime 2, Serato for DVS gigs and my primary home setup, Rekordbox for exporting USBs to play with DJs who are using CDJs etc and finally Djay as an alternative to Serato at home with a view to start using at gigs where i just want to take my ipad.

If you want to be truly flexible then having several software options is your best bet. Obviously OneLibrary is going to make this much easier.

Serato is still worth the money imo, its still the most stable software out there (pre 4.0 as that has some issues, im not using it), with the best UI in my opinion. Yes its not as feature packed as say Djay, but who is using every single feature anyway? give me a clean, uncluttered UI that does the fundamentals right over all the bells and whistles.

Hi @zai , check out the Reloop Mixon 8 Pro. It has dual USB ports on the back for 2 laptops. It’s also supported by djay and Serato. Each of the 4 channels can be separately routed to either of the 2 USB ports.

Oh, that is interesting @Slak_Jaw ….. does that mean other dual USB devices can do this? like the DJM-S7 etc?

Yes @STU-C, as long as that device has dual USB ports, supports both Serato and djay, and has independent source switches for each channel. This means you can connect 2 laptops at the same time and route them independently to each channel.

Some other potential DJ Mixer options include:

  1. Pioneer DJ DJM-900NXS2
  2. Pioneer DJ DJM-A9
  3. Pioneer DJ DJM-S7
  4. Pioneer DJ DJM-S11
  5. RANE Seventy-Two MKII

Thats definitely a great workaround then, obviously no stacked waveforms or whatever but very useful.

Another potential DJ Controller option is the Pioneer DJ FLX10. It has dual USBs, source select switches for each deck and is supported on Serato and djay. https://www.pioneerdj.com/en-us/product/controller/ddj-flx10/black/overview/

If you’re looking for some older options,

  1. The Denon DJ MC7000 has dual USBs, source switches and is supported on Serato and djay. MC7000 | Serato DJ Controller | Denon DJ
  2. Also, the Numark NS6II might be worth considering. It looks like it has dual USBs and is supported by Serato and djay. NS6II | Numark
