Best DVS compatible DJ controller (iOS/Windows)

Hi all,

I am looking into going back into vinyl - and therefore, given my mp3 collection, into dvs as well. And for that I am ready to completely redo my setup - ie change gear.

So my question is this : according to you guys’ experience, what would be the best hardware configuration ? I mean which controller would make the task easy to do this ? I was thinking of getting a ddj sx2 but it seems like you need to first get sera to pro to unlock dvs, etc… not going down that road !

So what would be your suggestions ? I would be working under windows and iOS, and also I don’t wanna buy a super expensive controller - I’d love to put my hands on a mixon 8, but I don’t wanna spend that much for now.

Any suggestions that work smoothly ?

Thanks to all

For DVS you don’t need a controller, just a pair of turntables and either a DVS capable mixer or just a plain old mixer with a separate DVS interface.

Yes, you are right, but no I rather have a controller, for more flexibility in different performing environments

Thanks for clarifying what you’re looking for @aum235. I have adjusted the topic title accordingly.

Based on your use case, IMO, the Reloop Mixon 8 Pro is probably your best option. However, I’ve not personally used it for DVS so hopefully some community users can share their personal experience as well.

You say the Mixon 8 is too expensive, but your problem will be finding a controller with enough USB audio I/O to handle DVS below that price point.

Using it with iOS will also restrict you, as it’ll need to be class compliant.

Good points @PKtheDJ. Thanks for sharing.

Well how about the SX2 ? These can be found 2nd hand at some fairly good price points

Well if you include second hand then you have more choice. I know the SX2 can be switched to DVS when using VirtualDJ without involving Serato, so presumably it also works with Djay Pro on Windows. Apparently though, no DVS when using iOS.

Oh ? Why is that ? Where d’you get that info ?

Also, Thanks for all you responses !

Just a caveat on the SX2, only 2 of the channels support DVS and annoyingly I think it’s the inside 2, meaning your platters arent in line with your faders if using all 4 channels.

The SZ2 is the absolute beast for pairing up with decks, and built like a tank

It’s fairly typical though for a four channel mixer to only support vinyl on two channels.

I’m not sure to understand what you mean when saying the platters or not in line with the faders

Indeed quite true

So the decks only plug into channels 1 and 2, but your decks can only ever sit on the outside edges of the controller.

So your faders left to right are 3124

But your decks would be laid out 1342 (if you have the digital platters set to control the other 2 channels)

I might be wrong but I think the SZ2 supports all 4 channels for DVS PK. I’ll have to double check

Edit: the Phono’s are on 3 and 4 so your decks will all sit in line on the SZ2, giving consistency with the channel faders

It’s 3 and 4 according to Google’s AI

The SZ2 is not class compliant though, so no iOS.

Yeah that’s it, just checked the images on the Pio website.

If on the sx2 lines concerned are the inside two - line 1&2 - id say apparently not a big problem for me, as I’d be using these two mainly anyway - whether in DVs or normal controller mode (cause I generally only just play on two decks anyway).

Now maybe I’m forgetting something, or not seeing the whole picture, and if you think that may be the case, please let me know.

Now I’ve done a bit of research as well on my side, and it’d seem - tho not 100% totally positive) that a such setup would work also on iOS with the sx2.

If someone reading this post knows for sure - experience - that it won’t, then please let all of us know.

One thing tho that I’m not certain to understand about the sx2 : if I want to use it in DVs mode with whatever software, do I need to first unlock something in the hardware - ie the firmware - using a full version of Serato or VDJ or is this just for the serato users ?

Why not look at getting something like a Numark Scratch plus a controller like a Flx4?

I use my tts for vinyl only with my x600 mixer. Sometimes I’ll use my Akai amx for dvs with my iPhone but that’s not really bought it for. My Rane one mk1 plays vinyl and dvs along with both my iPhone and computer but it’s out of your budget it seems.

As mentioned before there’s the option of getting a class compliant dj friendly audio interface and controller for djay’s internal mixer.

It cost money to have a centre piece of what you’re describing.
