YOUR QUESTION:

Can I add a single standalone XDJ 1000 Mk2 Deck to the system ?

I have been using the software since April and really enjoy mixing, but I am at a stage of needing to level up.

I want the aesthetic experience of a physical deck but I cannot justify spending out on 2 decks yet….so could I run Djay Pro on my Mac with 1 deck and have the other physical deck as my second, with everything running through my XONE 24c mixer ?

Using a mouse to do everything on (apart from mixing) is driving me nuts, I figure having a single physical deck will allow me to do all the things I want (ie spin the jog wheels, beat match by ear etc) albeit on one deck only.

Not sure if DJay Pro will still work this way though.

Any advice appreciated. Thank you for reading, Ben.

Hi @benjik, yes, that works. The XDJ-1000MK2 is on our officially supported hardware list for Mac, and djay doesn’t require a matched pair — you assign the player to one deck. djay will prompt you to pick which deck the player controls as soon as it connects.

The wiring:

1. USB from the XDJ-1000MK2 to your Mac - MIDI control.

2. USB from the Xone:24C to your Mac, carrying the audio for the software.

I hope that helps!

You’re welcome @benjik. Happy to help!

If you can find one, you might also want to consider a Denon LC-6000. These have 4 layer control, so a single LC-6000 can actually control 4 Decks. You can change the deck assignment on the fly via the hardware. I personally have a pair of these and they work really well with djay. Unfortunately, they are discontinued so a little hard to find sometimes.

Ok thank you, my research on Denon’s are they score high on software but can fall short on the jog wheel feel, I will look into the LC-6000 though! Cheers, Ben.

You’re welcome @benjik. You can likely get a pair of LC-6000s for less than a single XDJ-1000 MK2. Since you’ll be using it mainly as a MIDI controller, you don’t really need the standalone USB functionality of the 1000MK2.

You have to bear in mind that many reviews or casual comments on the internet can be heavily biased towards Pioneer/AlphaTheta, because it’s touted as “industry standard” or “club standard”, so anything that’s not exactly the same as that “standard” gets criticised - even if the commenter has never actually used the equipment or compared it.

It’s more of a “oh my mate said…” situation 🤣 🤦‍♂️

I’d say there’s some personal preference involved as well. Some prefer spinning platters, some mechanical jogs and some capacitive jogs. Personally, I’m quite happy with capacitive jogs, but I’m not much of a scratch DJ.

It’s difficult as all you can go on is reviews….its not until you have the kit and used it for a while that you know if its right for you or not. Personally I just want something I can audibly beat match with that is consistently responsive and doesn’t feel cheap / plasticky. My research points to xdj 1000 but me and my wallet will happily be convinced to look at other options. I agree there may well be a Pioneer bias out there however, it’s a fair point.

IMO and based on your described use case, the LC-6000 is probably a better fit for you. Obviously, testing them for yourself at a shop would be ideal.

Ok having spent the last few days researching players and vacillating between digital (Pioneer and Denon) and vinyl ( 1210mk7’s and Reloop 7000 mk2) I am thinking your recommendation is the one. Does the LC 6000 work ok without the SC 6000? I am guessing it does. Also my main motivation is to beat match audibly so is the pitch control reliable?

Thank you for your suggestion. The price point and minimalism hits the spot.

Hi @benjik, yes, the LC-6000 works 100% fine without an SC-6000. Also, the pitch faders are long and accurate. I’ve never had any issues manually beat matching on them. You’re welcome! It’s really too bad they stopped manufacturing these as there really is nothing like them still on the market.

I personally use a pair of LC-6000’s with a Reloop Mixtour Pro and have full control over all 4 decks. Plus it’s highly modular. Depending on the gig, I can bring both LC-6000’s, only one, or sometimes just the Mixtour Pro.

You sold it to me. I am sourcing one deck now, possibly 2! Loving the minimalism of your set-up. You have saved me a fortune as well. Most appreciated. Ben.
