Hi All, I’m potentially looking at a DDJ FLX10 to run with my DJPro software
I’ve been encouraged by the software now being “plug and play” with the controller but have a couple of questions I’m hoping somebody who has this set up could potentially answer for me
My existing controller Mixon8 has paddles on which I use for the three selectable instant effects in DJay Pro, where are these mapped to on the FLX10 and can you still use this feature? I may be wrong but it looks like the effects on the FLX10 are “on board” using 2-2 to 2-13 on the attached pic. I use these instant effects quite a bit so keen to keep this feature, appreciate the 8 pads can be mapped to the permanent effects
Also the jog wheel display and functionality, where is this up to now, does it work as it does for say Serato or Recordbox, I did read initially Djay Pro wasn’t working with the jog wheel display functionality but has this now been rectified and do all features work or just some?
Finally anybody using the FLX10 with Djay Pro how do you find it, be interested to hear how you get on with the compatibility and functionality etc
Hola Cuzer, not sure about your first question but the jog wheel displays work perfectly on Mac or Windows but not on iOS devices due to OS limitations. I am loving DJay Pro w- my FLX10. There are a few things like the lack of the LINK feature in the software but that’s super minimal. Overall it’s been solid for me. I love it and am not going anywhere!
Hi, thanks so much for the reply @megaman24
That”s really reassuring to know things work well and the jog wheel functionality is there. I use mainly Mac, but also have iOS and Windows so I’ll be covered off
I quite liked the idea of the link feature but it’s not a game changer. Regards the effects I’ve circled them below on the software image, the 3 instant effects you can choose in the Algoriddim software
Hi there, I came from a Mixon 8 also and now have a flx 10. In regards to the paddles, obviously the flx 10 doesn’t have paddles. There are colour effects and beat effects which I think are really good. You can and have the pad effects how you want. I think the flx 10 is mapped uniquely to cater for colour and beat efffects.
The jogs are great and you can cycle through all the options same as Rekordbox and Serato. Holding down a parameter button also shows what mode you are in. For example if in beat jump mode and press and hold a parameter button it will show on screen as long as you hold the button what the beat jump lengths are. Saves looking at lap top all the time. Very cool indeed
I love the FLX10, but I have never been a fan Pioneer’s single channel FX. There are some solid reasons for that design, but for me the cons outweigh the benefits. It requires too much baby-sitting in a live performances and that is unfortunate, because the rest of the FLX10 is awesome.
Separate FX sections like on the Mixon 8 with manual real-time controls and paddles are the way to go (especially if you like using FX) - but in the past few years, many companies have severely limited or completely abandoned the FX sections on their gear.
Hi All, thanks so much for the responses, really encouraging to read how the software is working with the FLX10
So I’ve attached what I believe are the two effects areas on the FLX10, my question is are these pre-set or mapable? I need to map the three individual “instant” effects which are in the Djay Pro software, not the 8 pad effects
On the Mixon 8 as mentioned they are top right and left of the controller, you highlight one, two or three effects you have activated and use the paddle to initiate the effect. On the FLX10 the blue button is the effect button but can I use this button to activate the individual effect I’ve selected in the DJAY Pro software, that is my question. If not can you map another button to activate this effect, I’m guessnig it will be one effect, not three as I can’t see this option working on the FLX10
Thanks, I did fear that to be honest. I have an Aki Midi unit I use for some samples and effects, I may be able to map the effects buttons to this unit. Such a shame I can’t use the FLX10 to host these effects though. Thanks for the suggestions, I’ll take a look at these
Both are external devices so you get added bonus of using Rane effects. Rest is mappable as you would normally. Others with these controllers can advise you better though.
Thanks, yes I should ask on a fresh post really for those using the Rane controllers. I’ve been lucky as my MIDI devices and reloop8 was all pretty much pre mapped how I required out the box so was half hoping the Rane controllers would be similar
Thanks @Slak_Jaw I’ve had a read through over 50 topics on the Rane 4 but quite a few are dated posts now. Could really do with a “live” update as such how it works and maps with Djay Pro currently
I’m certainly tempted to switch from my Reloop 8. Does anybody use the Rane Four regularly with Djay Pro who could give me a current compatibility update?
