Device model: Macbook Air 2025 (M4, 16gb RAM)
Version of operating system: macOS 15.7
Version of djay: 5.5.1
Hardware/controllers used: Pioneer DDJ-FLX4
hi! so, i’ve been using Pro version of Algoriddm Djay for quite some time on my Windows laptop, never had any problems.
However, I’m trying to migrate to Macbook. I downloaded Djay and everything works fine until I plug headphones into my DDJ-FLX4 for cueing output. When on Windows, I can easily double output – main speaker+headphones. But doing this on Macbook causes insane glitch/stutter. Controls work completely fine and without lag, but both speaker and headphone music is unplayable for how much it stutters.
Note that I have a M4 2025 Macbook with 16gb of RAM, my PC has the same RAM and an i-5 processor. It seems like hardware shouldn’t be a problem. I also maintain my Mac’s memory and don’t run any programs besides DJay.
I tried changing channels for output (my standart is ch 3-4), plugging Macbook in, reinstalling Djay. I’m also certain that the usb-c connection isn’t problematic. But the problem persists. I can use this controller for MIDI controls without double output just fine — knobs/button controls work precisely without lag.
I can’t find the solution online and the support is unresponsive. AI chatbots also list the wrong solution with nonexistent setting paths.
Please help! This problem just goes on and gives me a lot of trouble
Would be grateful to hear your ideas.
Ps: On MacOS, Djay doesn’t have a “buffer size” setting, which is advised to change on forums.
Hi @slowdance, welcome to the Community! Sorry to hear you’re experiencing this issue.
Splitting the main output and pre-cueing across 2 devices creates an aggregate audio device setup. While aggregating audio devices usually works fine, some combinations of audio devices can be unreliable e.g. if they don’t support the same sample rates or if their clocks cannot be brought in sync.
- That being said you can try adjusting the settings in the “Audio MIDI Setup” system app to see if that helps:
- While djay is running and configured with an aggregate device, select the “Aggregate-Audio-Device” device in the “Audio Devices” window of Audio MIDI Setup.
- Try disabling “Drift Correction” for one or both devices that are being aggregated.
- Try adjusting the sample rate of the aggregate device.
- Try changing the “clock source” of the aggregate device.
- If that doesn’t solve your issue, I recommend that you send both the main and pre-cueing audio to the same device.
THANK YOU! Problem solved.
In the beginning, none of your instructions helped – some changes could be heard when changing clock rate, but it was still very choppy. However, I just decided to change my default usb-c cable to an apple-made one while clock speed was on a lower setting – 44.1 Hz instead of 48. Somehow it worked, while a standard rate still causes troubles.
My solution:
— change a standard cable to a better one (e.g. apple cable)
— if problem still persists, change clock speed as written in the instruction above.
Thanks! This solution is very strange, but it works. Will report on additional results after I hook my Macbook to a big sound system through an RCA cable

You’re welcome @slowdance, glad to hear we sorted it out. I’m not surprised that the cable helped with the issue. We get a lot of issues in this community due to poor quality USB cables, cheap USB adapters and low quality USB hubs.
