DJM S11: Hardware/Software FX & Performance Pads?

Hi, I’m contemplating using DJM S-11 with DJ pro.

In the past with other software, I was unable to apply a reverb effect from the software to my left deck, but not disable the hardware effects (for the paddles) on the S11.

Is this possible? This is what I do with my Virtual DJ software. But it doesn’t work with Serato.

So basically use a software effect on a track without disabling the paddle effects (hardware)

I’m also wondering if the pad mappings work without issue. Loops, Cue Points, Samples, and Stems. I’m trying now to find a spec sheet.

Thanks

Hi @kfarrell70,

1. Regarding the Software/Hardware FX:

  • The S11 is pretty strict – you can only use the physical paddles for Software or Hardware FX at one time; never both at the same time. To use both, the mixer needs to be in Hardware FX mode and djay’s FX either controlled via the on-screen UI or with a second MIDI controller.
  • Also, the Software FX run through an FX Loop provided by the mixer (enabling post-fader FX), which is disabled when you are in Hardware FX mode.
  • The trick is to switch djay’s FX to pre-fader in the djay Settings. This allows you to use Hardware FX on the S11 and also djay’s FX through the on-screen UI or secondary MIDI controller. You won’t get Reverb/Delay tails when pulling down the faders, so we’d recommend doing those types of FX through Hardware FX

2. Regarding the Performance Pad Mappings:

  • Our mapping mostly matches the hardware performance pad labels.
  • Please note, however, that djay doesn’t have a Scratch Bank and Saved Flips
  • Scratch Bank is mapped to the Looper
  • Saved Flip is mapped to Neural Mix Pads

I hope that helps!

Yeah I basically wanted a DJ Pro reverb on my scratch track but be able to use the paddle effects for echo when turned on. Sounds like that is not possible, or it is if I turn on the reverb on the on screen UI and choose pre-fader?

It will work with Reverb, but you won’t get the post-fader reverb tail.
