FLX10 only works if running Rekordbox first (Windows 11 25H2)

I have a strange problem: I can only use my flx10 in djay pro when i first start up rekordbox. Otherwise it wont work. I have the drivers installed and are working correct. I even reinstalled it to be sure. I do need to tell i have used winutil to debloat windows and to set windows services to manual, but looking at the services it seems the flx10 driver service is actually on automatic, i really cant find anything where i can say, yup that is the reason the flx10 only works in djay when i first start up rekordbox. as if someting from the driver doesnt load properly with djay pro and rekordbox does load it properly.

It is really funny to startup djay pro, have my flx10 not working and when i also start rekordbox then djay pro reacts to my flx10 as intended and then i can close rekordbox and start DJing.

I really hope someone can help me with this.

Hi @Nyxxa-Noir, welcome to the Community! There are known MIDI issues with the Windows 11 25H2. Please refer to the linked help center article for some workarounds.

Sooooo, about this so called solution.

Lets begin with the fact that i am never happy when people ignore what is actually happening and just give someone a guide that wont solve anything. I already stated that it does work, but only after starting rekordbox, wich implies the flx10 works, but in djay pro i have issues. Then there is the problem solved checkmark, cool and all, it isnt solved, not before you know my findings after trying your guide you should give that checkmark. And then the is the blatant title change, that is extremely clickbaity and lying.

IT DOES WORK!!! Only in djay pro i have issues with it not recognizing the FLX10 as a midi device but in Rekordbox, Serato and virtual DJ it does work without any issue.

Yes i am aware of the midi issues in win 11, but that guide is false as h.ll. A: you cant just randomly remove any updates, even if, only for a limited time. B: even if you do, it is most of the time only the security part, not the feature part. C: I have a fresh install, i cant see them because of that and i cant remove them, some of the updates arent even monthly updates but preview updates, something you should never use apart from very specific situations. And D: my install is new enough to have the new midi features. E: the guide is only helpfull if you are not a tweaker who is smart enough to go in and investigate what is happening yourself. What is mentioned is stuff i do standard.

After a lot of frustration it still isnt fixed. Only djay pro has this issue for me but here we are with a arrogant forum mod who doesnt listen and just gives a random guide and gives the solved checkmark, and changes my title without reason.

I know people wont like my tone, i dont give a f.ck. I Specifically made a forum account for this and state what is and isnt happening, i ask for help. What did happen? A forum admin doesnt listen, gives me a guide that doesnt help and isnt correct and on top of that changes my title and says solved without even asking if i got it solved. At the end of the day, i wasnt given eny help at all.

I hope someone else can help me as Djay pro is my favourite dj software, but as a tech enthusiast and as a consumer i hate it when a call for help ends up like this. Lets be clear: I have 4 dj programs and in 3 of the 4 i have no issues. and in 1 i have, which is djay pro.

I am really hoping for someone that is actually wanting to help, as i am thinking of ending my subscription if this is the level of support i can expect.

Hi again @Nyxxa-Noir, my apologies if the linked help topic was not useful. We have had a lot of MIDI controller issues directly related to the recent Windows 11 25H2 update. This is the recommended starting point which has been effective in fixing most issues for our users. It was certainly not my intention to dismiss your issue and clearly this help article was not the solution in your case. Once again, sorry about that.

I simplified your topic title to make it easier for other users to find it via search, but I should not have concluded so quickly that the Windows 11 25H2 update was the cause of your issue. I have changed the topic title back. Please feel free to edit it as needed or let me know if you’d like me to modify it further.

I am very committed to helping users as much as I can in this Community and am usually online 7 days a week, including most holidays. I’ve been a djay user and active community member much longer than I’ve been working in support so I fully understand your perspective. Once again, apologies for jumping to conclusions on this one. So, perhaps we can start over.

Can you please be more specific about what exactly doesn’t work here? Is the FLX10 recognized in the djay Settings>Audio Devices and Settings>MIDI Devices? Please share screenshots of these pages.

Please let’s look at this calmly, as we all do in this Community.
@Slak_Jaw is a very respected moderator here, doing everything he can to help, and never gets mad. Just like everyone, he has a very loaded plate from time to time.

When the moderator checks “Solution” it means he genuinely expect it to work.
But you can always uncheck the Solution checkmark if the proposed procedure doesn’t actually solve your problem. So, be totally reassured he is not trying to trick you into anything, at all.

Obviously, I also understand your frustration, you want this to work as it should, and it will work, as FLX-10 is a very popular controller here among the Djay community.

We do have a bunch of FLX-10 users indeed.
Hopefully someone has the same Windows version as you and will help you out shortly.

Can any FLX-10 / Windows 11 combo user please jump in ?

Do I correctly understand that :

  • Your FLX-10 doesn’t appear at all in the settings>MIDI Devices page at first.
  • Your FLX-10 does appear in the settings>MIDI Devices page, once you have first initiated a connection with Recordbox.

Hello Slak_Jaw,

From my part: apologies for the way i acted. I just dont like certain things when it comes to issues and i am someone who can get pissed in those situations, that doesnt make my reactions okay.

I can safely say i have fixed it. Without even looking at the reactions but that was just because i am too curious and i went deeper in to seeking an solution.

I also looked online about the new midi stack of windows and just as you i found the midi sdk and check tool, i wanted to know if indeed the midi stuff was there and the tool saw it was all okay. But then it dawned, i saw it say it found it in system 32. So i looked there myself, it was there indeed. And then i found the issue and the solution. i saw something like midi service.exe. which means it is a windows service. i clicked, i saw something do stuff and then: i tried connecting the flx10 and started djay pro. It worked!

Reason this happened? Well i caused it but it gets really weird. I debloated windows and let it set all windows services that dont need to be on auto on manual. Normally this just means windows wont start a service automatic and the user or hardware/software needs to start it manually and that works fine normally. I have it like this on this laptop that i only use for djing and also on mine and also on my wives gaming pc.

Somehow both the flx10 and djay pro cant start it, that caused the issues, when i started it it worked. I tested several times to be sure, i have now put it on auto so it works like intended.

But here comes the really weird part and i hope Algoriddim can have a look at it because i am really curious:

Serato, Virtual DJ and Rekordbox also cant start the service, i have tested it to be sure. But somehow only Djay pro cant function right when the midi service isnt on while the other software are working with it being off. It seems really strange and weird to me. That also was the reason i didnt think it was windows or whatever, everything looked right and worked right as long as i didnt use djay pro.

I have a screenshot of the service, it was taken before i put it on auto.

To clarify what i see in Djay pro when the service isnt running: In the midi devices it doesnt see the flx10. But Rekordbox, Virtual DJ and Serato do see it, all 3 work and see it as a device. This really throwed me off.

To @Davidv100 Yes after using Rekordbox i saw it in the midi settings, but yesterday that also didnt happen anymore. This was before i found the issue.

After a rocky start, i again want to apologize and also say thank you for the help provided, somehow i stumbled on the solution myself but the given things here align with what i tried before i read the new reactions.

Hi @Nyxxa-Noir, thanks for the detailed follow up and apology. I really appreciate it and am very happy to hear that you were able to sort it out by installing the new MIDI stack and setting the Windows MIDI Services to Automatic. I will pass your additional observations onto our engineering team.

Hello everyone, we released a supplemental update to Windows djay 5.6.4 on April 10 which should fix the issue where MIDI controllers are not detected. We added a small workaround which should ensure that the Windows MIDI Service is started on app launch. I hope that helps!
