Presentation

Hey team,
I’m DJ Lowsa. I’ve been mixing for 6 years and turned my DJing into a full-time professional business 2 years ago. I use the Pro version of djay for all my gigs, and first off, I really want to say a huge thank you to the Algoriddim development team for all the incredible work done so far. Seeing how much the app has evolved over the last 6 years is just amazing.
Recently, I decided to transition toward more open platforms, so I took the leap and started using a high-end Android phone. However, to my surprise, I found that the Android version isn’t quite at the same level as its Apple counterpart. I’ve encountered quite a few bugs, missing features, and notably, playlist management is far less intuitive and smooth.
I’d love to share my feedback and experience with you all to help optimize and improve djay on Android!

1. Bug Report: UI Layout Glitch During Screen Rotation

Issue Description:
Changing the screen orientation from portrait to landscape (or vice-versa) causes UI display glitches. Elements fail to reposition or resize correctly, leading to a broken interface layout.
Steps to reproduce:

  • Open djay in portrait or landscape mode.
  • Rotate the device to switch orientation while the app is running.
  • Observe the misaligned UI elements and layout bugs.
    Expected behavior:
The user interface should adapt seamlessly and instantly to screen orientation changes without visual corruption or overlapping elements.

2. Usability & Workflow Issue: Playlist Creation & Management

Issue Description:
For a professional DJ app, playlist creation on Android is currently unintuitive and restrictive. There is no simple, direct way to organize and build native playlists smoothly inside the app.

Third-Party Workaround Failure:

Users are currently forced to rely on external platforms (like YouTube Music) to create playlists and import them into djay. However, this workaround is unreliable and does not sync or work properly on my end, creating a major bottleneck in track preparation before gigs.

Comparison / Expected Behavior:
On iOS, playlist management is seamless and native. The Android version needs a direct, intuitive built-in playlist management system that doesn’t rely heavily on external streaming services or clunky workarounds.

3. UI Design, Waveform Features & Neural Mix Quality (Android vs. iOS)

Overall UI & Design Language:
Compared to the iOS version, the general interface on Android feels less refined and less adapted for seamless workflow. Buttons, menus, and overall UI scaling look and feel better integrated on iOS, whereas the Android interface feels less polished overall.

Waveform Limitations & Missing Features:
The interactive features directly accessible from the waveforms are heavily stripped down on Android. On iOS, we have quick access to key tools that are missing or limited here:
Slice Mode: Missing/restricted waveform slicing capability.
Slip Mode: Less accessible or missing dedicated waveform controls.
Neural Mix Waveform Controls: Lack of direct stem-isolation controls directly on the waveforms compared to the iPadOS/iOS experience.

Neural Mix (Stem Isolation) Quality Difference:
Beyond the missing UI controls, the audio processing engine for Neural Mix itself feels different. On identical source audio, the stem isolation quality (vocals/drums/instruments separation) sounds noticeably cleaner with fewer audio artifacts on iOS than on Android. On a high-end flagship device, Android hardware should be fully capable of handling the same advanced real-time DSP algorithm.

Conclusion

That wraps up my experience for now! I will also attach a few screenshots from my Android phone to help illustrate these points.
In any case, a big thank you to everyone who takes the time to read through this long post, and huge congratulations once again to the developers for their hard work.
Feel free to check out my YouTube channel to hear my DJ sets!
I’d also like to mention that I put this report together with the help of AI, since I’m a French guy and my English isn’t the greatest! lol

Musically,

Hi @DJ_Lowsa, thanks for the detailed feedback. This is valuable input. However, please separate these into unique 3 topics. Then we can address and track them individually. Also, I suspect there may be some existing, closely related topics to some of these so please use the search tool and post in an existing topic rather than creating a duplicate. Thanks!

Hi again @DJ_Lowsa, I ran some searches myself. Please see below for some existing topics to review as potential matches for your feedback before you make a dedicated topic.

I hope that helps!

Hi @Slak_Jaw , thank you for looking into this and for your feedback! I’ll definitely check out the threads from other users and jump into those discussions before creating dedicated posts.

You’re welcome @DJ_Lowsa. Sounds good!
