It’s a business decision, not a personal one. In an ideal world, I could choose only the clients that best match my preferences, but that’s not the reality..
True on both aspects, but in this business of DJ’ing some have this concept of for example, they pay some high profile dj to show up for their own bragging rights but afterwards the crowd is very disappointed by that name brand dj due to they don’t make the moment, “the moment” some dj’s talk through every song, do short mixes or just don’t connect with the crowd. I have opened many times for name brand dj’s and turned the party out. I right now can do any event with just the Reloop Ready and small mixing board and nake it happen, never doubt your skills and your creativity, no matter what they pay you make it happen, whatever gear you have, make it happen, the Pioneer dj ddj flx4 is a powerful tool for any dj that is confident in their skills. Similar to eating at a small town restaurant opposed to eating at a high profile restaurant, the small town restaurant makes and prepares food from the heart and you get your money’s worth and more, a high profile restaurant you pay way more but are still hungry, give yourself a pat on the back and deal with people who are looking for a dj that makes the moment, and your show is talked about in a positive manner because you put your heart and soul into it, sometimes less is much much more, trust me on that.
As a Denon user i always find it offensive when people start being gear snobs, and it usually centres around owning Pioneer DJ gear and not being considered ‘professional’ unless you use it. An XDJ-RX3 is far inferior to my years old Prime 2, and in honesty outside of 4 channels it’s superior to the XDJ-AZ too.
But those brand fetish fanboys will argue otherwise.
