Subject: DVS / Phase Timecode Issue on iPad Pro M3 with DJM-S7

Device model: iPad Pro M3
Operating system: iOS 26.1
djay version: Latest updated version
Hardware/controllers used: Pioneer DJM-S7, Phase DJ remote, Serato Control Vinyl
Hardware firmware version: Unknown (DJM-S7)
Other hardware: Powered USB hub between mixer and iPad

Issue description:
I’m trying to set up DVS on djay using my Pioneer DJM-S7 with a Phase remote on channel A and Serato timecode vinyl on channel B.
• Both PHONO channels on the mixer pick up the timecode tone correctly (the needle + vinyl output the 1 kHz Serato timecode tone) and I can hear it through the mixer/headphones.
• However, djay does not detect any timecode signal during calibration when either channel is set to PHONO.
• When I switch the mixer channel to PC/Computer mode, djay does show a calibration signal, but this appears to be coming from the USB return, not true DVS.
• In PHONO mode, the calibration screen stays blank on both decks.
• I have also tested using only Serato Control Vinyl (without Phase), and djay still does not detect the PHONO timecode signal.

Additional details:
• I am connecting the DJM-S7 to the iPad through a powered USB hub.
• I’ve rebooted the iPad, unplugged/replugged the mixer, and checked mixer input settings, but djay still doesn’t recognize the PHONO timecode signal.
• I can share screenshots or a short video showing the mixer settings and calibration screen if helpful.

Request / question:
• Is there a known workflow or correct mixer settings to get Phase or Serato timecode vinyl working with djay on an iPad Pro M3 and DJM-S7?
• Are there USB or input routing configurations required for djay to recognize PHONO timecode signals on iPad?

@basskaa thank you for the post. I got it working before I saw your post, and here is what I did to fix it.

Update — I Got It Working (Pioneer DJM-S7 + iPad Pro M3 + Phase + djay)

Just wanted to follow up with the solution in case it helps anyone else running into the same issue.

I was finally able to get everything working smoothly, and the latency + scratching now feel excellent. Here’s exactly what I did:

  1. Change S7 Inputs from Phono to Line

I connected the DJM-S7 to my laptop first and switched both channel outputs in the Setting Utility app for the s7 on my Mac from Phono → Line in the S7 settings.

They were defaulted to Phono, which causes issues with Phase/DVS on iPad.

After changing it once, the mixer has kept the setting even after power cycles, but I’m not 100% sure this persists for everyone.

  1. Update Phase Firmware + Change to Custom Mode

I updated my Phase remotes/base to the latest firmware.

Then I switched Phase from Serato mode → Custom mode and set the signal to 1000 Hz (1 kHz).

  1. Connect Phase RCAs to Line Inputs

I plugged the RCAs from the Phase base into the Line inputs on the S7—NOT the phono inputs.

  1. Set the S7 Input Selector to PC A

On the mixer I set both channels (A and B) to PC A.

  1. Calibrate DVS Inside djay

Once connected to the iPad Pro M3, I went into djay → Settings → DVS and calibrated each Phase deck.

Calibration worked instantly with the 1 kHz tone.

  1. Change Deck Mode in djay

For each deck in djay, I switched:

Internal → Relative

This enabled full physical control with Phase—scratching, cueing, everything.

Result

Everything is working incredibly well now. Latency is excellent, tracking is tight, scratching feels natural, and overall it’s a very solid setup.

Hopefully this helps someone else who’s trying to run:

iPad Pro (M3) + djay + DJM-S7 + Phase (1 kHz custom mode).
