Hercules DJControl Mix Ultra not connecting on Android

  • Device: Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite
  • OS: Android 13 TKQ1.220829.002
  • Version of djay: Up to date
  • Controller: Hercules DJ Control Mix Ultra

Controller does not connect properly. After the connection in djay app, controller is being ahown as connected, but application does not respond to any controller buttons or sliders. Tested on iphone, controller seems to be working.

Bluetooth drivers are up to date, phone OS up to date as well. Did multiple restarts on the phone and controller, but did not have any luck.

Hi @Zydrunas_Armonas, welcome to the Community! Can you please confirm the actual version number of djay you are using (ex. 5.3.1)? Thanks!

Hi,

Sorry, version is 5.3.1

Thanks @Zydrunas_Armonas. Can you please try to capture a short video of the issue and upload it here?

No, I cant. When trying to upload a video, I am getting a message “Sorry, new users cannot upload attachments”

Please try now @Zydrunas_Armonas. I’ve changed your account from New User to Basic User.

Thanks for the video @Zydrunas_Armonas.

  1. Do you have a djay Pro subscription and are you logged into your Algoriddim djay account on your Android device?
  2. Please also disable Bluetooth on your other nearby devices (ex. iPhone) so that the Mix Ultra isn’t trying to connect to another device at the same time.
  3. Can you try connecting via USB-C cable instead of Bluetooth to see if that works?
  1. Yes, I do have a subscription, tried it both ways - with login and without it.
  2. No active bluetooth devices around - still the same issue.
  3. Sadly, I do not own a cable USB-C to USB-C or any adapters that would let me make such a connection, so I can’t check it.

Hi @Zydrunas_Armonas, thanks for the additional info. Please try the following:

  1. Turn off the Mix Ultra.
  2. Close djay and all other background apps on your Android phone.
  3. Reboot your Android phone.
  4. After rebooting, navigate to your phone’s Bluetooth settings and make sure no other BT devices are connected to your phone.
  5. With the Mix Ultra still turned OFF, launch only djay.
  6. Finally turn the Mix Ultra ON and perform the pairing process again.

Already tried it, but just to be safe, repeated the process described and I get the same result. Connected, but non responsive

Strange. Thanks for trying those steps. Since you don’t have a USB-C to C cable to test with, the only other thing I can think to check is to confirm if the device is send MIDI signals or not. For this you will need to download an app like MIDI Scope onto your phone.

When device is connected to the app, no signals are sent at all.
Another thing to mention - tried it on another Android device - Samsung phone, and it worked fine.

Okay, that is helpful information. Perhaps your Bluetooth Permissions in the Android settings of this device are disabled for djay. Can you please check your settings in Permission Manager to confirm?

You can also check in Settings>Apps, select djay and check the Permissions there.

Sadly, all permissions are granted, including ‘Discover and pair bluettoth devices’ and ‘connect to paired bluettoth devices’

Okay, wow. I can’t think of much else to suggest here.

  1. Have you tried uninstalling djay and reinstalling it on this device?
  2. If so, then it seems like an isolated issue with this particular Android device.
  3. I would reach out to the device manufacturer for further assistance as I don’t have access to this specific device to help you troubleshoot it much further.
  4. Either that or, try to get a USB-C to C cable to see if it works via wired connection.

In the meantime, I will pass this onto our engineering team to see if they have any ideas. Thanks!

Yes, I tried reinstalling it, no luck. Did some googling, and it turns out that Xiaomi and MIDI does not work well together. Thabk you very much for your support
