A) SUMMARY OF ISSUE:

  • When I load a certain track into Djay pro the first hot cue does not adhere to the Quantize setting. It is set to 1 full beat. All tracks I use are loaded through a rekordbox.xml. I dove into the xml but could not find anything out of the ordinary with the definition of the hotcues. Seems to be an issue of the combination of the file, being analyzed and annotated in rekordbox, then loaded into djay. I have found this behaviour with one track so far, but I haven’t played with Djay in a while so there might be more.

B) DETAILED STEPS TO REPRODUCE:

  1. Analyze this one track through rekordbox, export through xml, load xml into djay pro, load the track and slam the hotcues as you wish. Let me know if you need the source file or the rekordbox xml section related to this track.

C) EXPECTED RESULTS:

  • Hotcue 1 adheres to quantize

D) ACTUAL RESULTS:

  • Hotcue 1 does not adhere to quantize

Thanks for the video and details @caster25. Very strange behaviour.

  1. Are you using the (built-in) MIDI mapping for both LC6000’s and the RANE 4 or custom edits?
  2. Are you running the same firmware v1.0.5 firmware on both LC6000’s?
  3. Can you please also share a screen recording on your Mac when pressing Hot Cue 1 on Deck 4?
  4. Does this happen if you add this track to your library outside of the Rekordbox XML import process?

Hi, thanks for the quick reply. Happy to provide answers to your questions, here goes:

  1. I’m using the built-in mappings

  2. Yes. I should say that I do not believe this has anything to do with controllers or mappings. While slamming the mouse on the hotcue buttons without any controllers connected the same behaviour occurs.

  3. I did it a little differently, but I think I recorded the behaviour and parts of the screen that you are looking for. If not, please let me know.

  4. I have the track also in the djay library and then the first hotcue does adhere to quantization. However I have to use rekordbox as main library and the conversion process provided by ATGR (however awesome) takes a lot of time and the xml import in djay is a lot faster, although not as complete as ATGR.

I cant find the exact video/article to cover this but im fairly certain either Mixmaster G or the guy who runs Lexicon have found an issue where different software analyses music differently and it means that cues and loops are not in sync when you transfer between them… Mojaxx has covered it somewhere on one of the DJCity videos too.

Different implementations of DJ software read files with different software libraries, such issues are only logical. I’m familiar with the content you are referring to. However the fact that hotcues may not be aligned properly has nothing to do with the fact that in this one instance it doesn’t adhere to the quantize setting. At least that is what I suspect

I think because you are loading an XML file from Rekordbox directly, that could be what is causing the issue, if you go back and watch through the video Mojaxx posted this is how he explains it. Software like Lexicon etc have done extensive work to mitigate the problem during their conversion (as it was those guys who found the issue to begin with).

I dont think a hot cue being loaded in from a different software will adhere to any quantise rules as its already embedded, that task to quantise the cue will take place during the placement function.

Doing these library loads from other software has always been troublesome, and probably why Lexicon exists in the first place.

Thanks for the additional info @caster25. I agree, this looks like an inherited setting for that hot cue from Rekordbox. I would try to correct it at the source then reimport the XML if possible.

Hi STU-C and Slak_Jaw, thanks for your replies. It is not an inherited setting as quantization is not saved within the cue point. The hotcue works fine in rekordbox (in terms that it DOES adhere to quantization of 1 beat, which I have it set on) so there’s not really anything to correct. But I’ve tried the following anyway: I’ve copied to source file elsewhere, imported it in rekordbox and it works just fine in rekordbox with quantization set to 1 beat. It already did so on the original file, so I didn’t expect fireworks here. When I export the library again as xml and load it into djay, same issue. It’s just weird and it doesn’t make any sense that it is only just with this one file.

What happens if you delete the file from your library then re-add it manually? does the track behave correctly then?

Perhaps this has something to do with your use of DJCU from ATGR? Have you contacted Mixmaster G? He’s usually very responsive to user inquiries.
