Library and data sync with SSD between 2 Macs

YOUR QUESTION:

  1. I work with 2 MacBook Airs… I prep my music on my MacBook Air 13” and I have a dedicated MacBook Air 15“ that is only for DJing.

Is there anyway to sync the library data so after I get done processing music on my MBA 13”… everything is mirrored on my DJ only MBA 15” when I connect my SSD?

FYI: all of my music lives on my SSD… I don’t store any music on the computers themselves.

Thank you.

Hi @DJRemixDetroit, have you looked into using OneLibrary?

Thanks for the link @Slak_Jaw. I read through it, will One Library work for my Apple Music Playlists too?
I noticed that when I color code my Apple Music tracks on my first laptop… those same tracks are not color coded on my second laptop.

I was reading through the forum and found this thread. I think the best option for now is to just copy and paste my Djay folder to the second laptop.

It would be helpful though if library data was saved onto the external ssd as well to make it more efficient for DJs using two laptops.

You’re welcome @DJRemixDetroit,

Yes, OneLibrary works with Apple Music Streaming playlists as well. Just keep in mind that you will need to be logged into your AM Streaming account on both devices and connected to the internet. OneLibrary doesn’t make these streaming songs available offline.

Do you have iCloud sync enabled on both laptops?

Okay, sounds good!

@Slak_Jaw Yes! I double checked all my devices and all of them have iCloud sync enabled.

Are you adding the color tags inside of djay or in the Apple Music App? Maybe you can share a short screen recording of your process?

I’m adding all color tags in the Djay Pro app.

I pretty much do all of my library upkeep inside the app to keep things as simple as possible.

The only time I step outside of the Djay Pro app is when I’m deleting music from the SSD itself.

Are you adding the color tags within the My Collection Source, Apple Music Source, Finder Source or Local Music Source within djay?

I’m adding colors via the Apple Music source.

Try adding your Apple Music playlist to a playlist in My Collection to see if that helps.

Okay cool, I will definitely try that.

Quick question on that tip, If I add the specific Apple Music playlist to my music collection, will I have to add future AM tracks to the new MMC im going to create?…or will that same playlist auto populate as I add more tracks to it in AM?

You’re welcome. The My Collection playlist will not auto update across both of your Macs. You will have to manually copy the djayMediaLibrary database from one Mac to the other for this.

OK cool. That’ll work for now. Hopefully the dev team has something in the works to sync multiple devices operating under the same account/ same external ssd. :crossed_fingers:

Thanks for all your help @Slak_Jaw Have a great rest of your weekend!
