I’ve been wanting this feature to exist for YEARS and just found out that it does exist in Rekordbox.
Rekordbox’s ‘Match’ feature allows DJs to manually link two tracks together that mix well, saving this pairing for future sets. When one track is loaded, the matched track appears in the Related Tracks panel, helping to curate perfect transitions and recall, or “favourite,” pairings.
This would be the best way to capture those great track combinations that you stumble across whilst mixing.
The more ‘matches’ you create in the library, the more empowered you are to DJ freely without a playlist, but still easily find your way back to those special combinations… Or essentially have a more dynamic alternative to playlists - where instead of a fixed play order, you always have some great suggestions for where to go next.
It’s so frustrating to me that there isn’t an easy way to capture those magical moments when they happen! Sure you can take a screenshot or write it down - but there’s no way to readily access that if you’re in the middle of a set.
I tend to DJ in bars for quite long sets in quite an eclectic way - so I never put together a playlist in advance. Every evening is different and I go with the flow depending on the crowd. So I often stumble across great combinations (sometimes bridging genres) and sorely wish that I could just tap a ‘match‘ or ‘pair’ button.
The great thing with this feature is that instead of using AI or some matching criteria to suggest potential song matches - this is purely based on your own discoveries.
PLEEEEASE!!
