YOUR QUESTION:

  1. Hi there, I’m struggling with the metadata and OneLibrary, which I use as my “original“ database for my music (the reasons why is beyond this topic). I keep My Collection empty most of the time, but when I want to edit a bulk of metadata, I have to import the files to My Collection, adjust the metadata and then export them back to the OneLibrary.

  2. My struggle is as follows: songs seem to change to an old version of the metadata (in this case always the Comment metadata). In my specific case: when I import a bulk of “warm up” songs (filtered via Comment), some of them have a comment saying “party“, when they’re in My Collection. I guess that over the years I’ve changed those songs back to “warm up“ and that’s how they show at OneLibrary, but for some reason they switch back when imported. Even though Music in My Collection is emptied before I import and I also delete all the songs files from my Djay folder before the import.

  3. The issue for me is, when I export it back, OneLibrary takes the version of My Collection (so my old tags). Now I’m always manually editing them back before exporting, but it would be super nice if it automatically stays the newest version as on OneLibrary.

  4. Do you have any idea how this happens and what I can do so that the metadata stays the same?

Hi @Len91, in the djay Settings>Advanced>Syncing>iCloud is your status Active? If so, please try disabling iCloud Syncing:

Hi, thanks for you response. iCloud was active and I just disabled it. Unfortunately it didn’t fix it yet

You’re welcome @Len91. Please test it out for a few days and report back.

Hello! It’s been a week since my last reply. I’m going to consider this topic completed for now so I can focus on others. However, please feel free to respond and we can definitely revisit this. Thanks!

Sorry for not responding earlier. Unfortunately it didn’t have effect to deactivate iCloud; I still get some old comment tags when importing from onelibrary usb to another empty database

Hmmm… strange. Not sure what else to suggest @Len91

Too bad! Thanks for your responses. I’ll try to find a workaround :+1:

You’re welcome @Len91. Sorry I couldn’t be of more help.

If the original comments got written to the file they will continue to reappear. Djay doesn’t write comments to the file, it only writes them within the software. Try opening the files with lexicon or evertag, both have free versions and you will be able to view and edit the data and rewrite comments to your liking. Lexicon is the superior as you can view all tracks and info, once you have edited the data just right click and select write tags. They should show up correct in djay after that

Not true.
Djay writes to id3 tag on file. Editing artist, track, album, comment, genre, etc inside djay gets reflected on the id3 tags of the file and can be seen in other softwares (kid3, serato, rekordbox, etc).

The only metadata it doesn’t write onto file is cues/loops. Serato writes cues/loops info on file id3 tag

This maybe true, I’m no expert but what I have experienced in the past is that once the comments/tags have been written, Djay has a hard time overiding them. I had a similar problem to @Len91 recently, no matter how many times I changed the comments within djay the old ones kept coming back and overpowering them. I’ll admit, my knowledge here is thin but I do know I had the same issue and after rewriting the tags with lexicon the issue stopped.

Thanks for both your responses!! I did some testing and this is what has been causing the issues for sure. I used to have a serato library and I guess that still in the metadata on some files. It does seem that Djay indeed has a hard time overwriting it when it’s exporting to OneLibrary.

The steps that I did:

  1. import a file with changing metadata from USB to My Collection
  2. I changed the metadata back to what I want and exported again
  3. On a new import, it still changed again
  4. I did the same steps and changed the metadata using Serato –> export –> import back
  5. But still it changed back again when importing back

So indeed for some reason the metadata doesn’t change on the USB itself when exporting. When I opened the file that’s on the USB directly in Serato and changed the metadata there, it’s fixed! Then I can import and export all I want and it stays the same

Thanks!! This fixed it for me.

There does seem to be a hierarchy in the softwares abilities to control metadata. Don’t think djay is very high on the ladder. Glad you got it sorted.
