This one came out of necessity while practising.
When I’m working on mixes and transitions, I’m constantly stopping, going back to my cue points and running the section again. With two decks it’s manageable. With three or four tracks involved, individually returning every deck to its Start Cue becomes repetitive and breaks the practice flow.
What I wanted was simple: one command that recalls the decks to their individual Start Cues, pauses them and lines everything back up ready for another run.
That’s SDCR — Simple Direct Cue Recall.
On my Mixtour Pro I’ve mapped:
SHIFT + Right Neural Mix
to djay’s action:
Jump to Start Cue and Pause
Why I use it
SDCR is mainly a practice workflow tool.
If I’m working on a transition involving two, three or four decks, I can do my practice run, hit SHIFT + Right Neural Mix and immediately bring all the mapped decks back to their individual Start Cues, paused and ready to go again and again.
No working through the decks one at a time. No resetting cue points. Just recall, align and run it again.
How to set it up
In djay’s MIDI mapping screen, press SHIFT + Right Neural Mix so djay selects that MIDI command.
For the first mapping set:
Target: Deck 1
Action: Jump to Start Cue and Pause
Then go back to the MIDI mapping list, swipe left on that mapping and select Duplicate.
Open the duplicate and change only the Target to Deck 2.
Duplicate again for Deck 3, then once more for Deck 4.
You should end up with the same physical control mapped four times:
-
Deck 1 → Jump to Start Cue and Pause
-
Deck 2 → Jump to Start Cue and Pause
-
Deck 3 → Jump to Start Cue and Pause
-
Deck 4 → Jump to Start Cue and Pause
The MIDI command stays the same. Only the Target changes.
Now, pressing SHIFT + Right Neural Mix recalls all the mapped decks to their own Start Cue and pauses them there. If you only have two or three decks involved, that’s fine too — the decks you’re working with are simply lined back up ready for the next attempt.
One thing to be aware of
There is a trade-off with this remap.
By default, SHIFT + Right Neural Mix is used to cycle through the different deck layouts on the iPad or phone. Once you repurpose that control for SDCR, you will no longer be able to scroll through those layouts using that Mixtour Pro shortcut.
For my workflow that isn’t really a problem, because I also use another Mixtour Pro remap I call SDVS — Simple Direct View Switching.
SDVS gives me dedicated shortcuts for jumping directly between my preferred 2-deck and 4-deck views, rather than cycling through layouts I don’t normally use.
So the two modifications work nicely together:
SDVS gets me directly to the deck view I want.
SDCR gets the decks directly back to their Start Cues when I want another practice run.
It’s worth knowing about the lost default function before making the change, but if you already have another way of selecting your preferred layouts, SDCR can turn that otherwise less-used control into a very handy practice shortcut.
Recall. Align. Run it again.
