A) SUMMARY OF ISSUE:

Hello friends,

At the end of each event, the next day I usually check the history of what I played to make maintenance adjustments to my music, whether it’s changing hotcues, creating loops, or finding better versions or higher quality. In other words, I keep my library the way I want it to perform my work better.

But when I opened it today, some of my history files aren’t loading. At the top it shows the quantity and time, and below the numbering, but the song names aren’t loading so I can’t look them up.

Can you help me?

B) DETAILED STEPS TO REPRODUCE:

  1. I just open the app.

C) EXPECTED RESULTS:

  • I want it to go back to normal, which is showing the history of all the events I’ve ever done.

D) ACTUAL RESULTS:

  • Only some historical records open randomly, every time I open the app.

Hi @brunolima, thanks for the video and setup details. I was not able to reproduce this on my setup. All of my history playlists show up as expected.

  1. If you wait for a few seconds, do the playlists eventually load?
  2. What music source(s) are you using? Are you mainly using Local Music files or are you also using Apple Music Streaming?
  3. For the Local Files, are these stored on your internal Mac drive or on an external drive? What files formats are you using?
  4. If you’re using Apple Music Streaming, is your subscription still active?
  5. Have you recently moved the location of your local music files on your Mac?
  6. Is there anything else you have recently changed on your Mac that might be contributing to this issue?

If you need me to make more videos, just let me know.

BR,

brunolima

Hi @brunolima , @Slak_Jaw
similar problem I experienced yesterday night while playing live.
I often play from my history gigs, as tracks are perfectly lined up here. History was loading only for some gigs I played recently, or got not loaded when scrolling down through the playlist. Djay Pro was freezing when scrolling down and caused an unintended stop in my set, as I was unable to click any button (beachball of death).

I switched to iPad Djay Pro as alternative source, but could not fix the issue on my Mac Book Pro (2018 13”, 2,3 GHz Quad-Core, 16GB, macOS Sequoina 15.7.7 / DJAY PRO 5.6.4), although performing multiple restarts of computer and software. Very disgusting when playing in front of audience.

When opening djay after the gig, behaviour was identical. Some list got loaded after some minutes, some other stay inactive. When clicking into the list beachball starts rolling.

I did not change recently anything from the setup, which worked fine for years. It seems djay is reading/loading something from info (see last part of the sequence in the info window) and stalls or MacOS has some serious problems.

Is there anything I can do to fix the issue?

Thanks for answering my questions @brunolima. I’ve passed this onto our engineering team to see if they can reproduce the issue on their end. I’ll report back when I have more news.

Thanks for the additional info and video @DJTimTurner. I’ve shared this with our engineering team to see if this helps them reproduce the issue. I am still not able to repro on macOS, iOS or Windows.

Hello again @brunolima and @DJTimTurner, can you please confirm if you are using iCloud Sync or if you have used it in the past? To me this sounds like it could be related to an CloudKit issue I’ve seen in the past.

Please follow the process below to reset the iCloud state:

  1. Quit djay.
  2. Make sure you have a backup of your djay Media Library.djayMediaLibrary file on an external drive or in the cloud.
  3. If you have previously disabled iCloud for djay Pro in System settings, please make sure it is re-enabled for djay Pro. How do I enable and troubleshoot iCloud syncing on iOS and macOS? | Algoriddim Support
  4. Open the app Terminal.app
  5. Run this command: defaults write com.algoriddim.djay-iphone-free CMCResetCloudKitState -bool true
  6. Launch djay

This will reset the cloudkit state and should clear up the issue. After this, it’s recommended that you leave iCloud sync for djay enabled to prevent caching of Cloudkit and the growth of the djay Media Library.

  1. Please refer to the second half of the linked FAQ for how to enable iCloud Syncing on macOS: How do I enable and troubleshoot iCloud syncing on iOS and macOS? | Algoriddim Support
  2. Please note, if you decide you want to keep iCloud Sync turned Off going forward, you will need to perform the above process on a semi-regular basis as your database size grows over time. Alternatively, you can keep iCloud Sync On and the cache will be automatically cleared on its own.

Yes, I use iCloud sync. Now here in Brazil it’s day and I’m in a training class. At night at home I do this procedure and give a feedback

Sounds good @brunolima. I’ll watch for your reply tonight.

yes using sync. performed the recommended steps. Now djay states “initialising sync”. no last sync. History titles remains gone. iCloud sync is and also was activated within settings.

now completed, history still unavailable

…and btw I see the same behaviour in the title queue with tracks loaded to the queue

Thanks for confirming @DJTimTurner. This is helpful information. I will pass this onto our engineering team, but everyone is off today for the holiday. I’ll report back when I hear back.

Hi @Slak_Jaw

It only resolved the last 8 history entries, as you can see in the video. I waited for the app to sync and reopened it, and everything remains the same. It just reverted.

Okay thanks for confirming @brunolima. Sorry that didn’t solve it. I’ll report back when I hear from engineering.

Are you also experiencing this with the Queue?

Hi @Slak_Jaw

I don’t usually use this function. But I tested it quickly and apparently it’s normal. Nothing disappeared.

And there’s more about the disappearing history. If I browse through the history, sometimes the app freezes completely and I have to force-close it.

And I also saw that an update went live today. I just installed it and the intermittent problem continues. Sometimes I open it and everything is gone. And sometimes I only see the last 8 history entries.

Thanks for checking the Queue and for testing the latest version 5.6.5 @brunolima.

@DJTimTurner, have you also updated to 5.6.5? If so, does the issue persist in this version as well?

hi @Slak_Jaw
I’m very worried now! I updated to the new version and the problem persists, it keeps freezing.
I uninstalled the app using App Cleaner and then reinstalled it, and it still doesn’t show my history. Now I can’t load the third track, it freezes everything! And if I try to analyze any track, it freezes everything!

If you’d like to do some remote access, we can arrange that too. I only use Djay Pro for work.

BR,

Updated to 5.6.5, changes noticed in the queue, as it displays images, title & artist again. history issue still persists. Most history is unavailable besides random single tracks. So I was taking screenshots for couple of minutes, keeping djay open. After couple of minutes some tracks at the beginning of the latest lists were visible again. If scrolling to the end of the list tracks are unavailable.

By tracks that appeared again, I can see from the history additional info is missing… e.g. star rating not being available in djay but available in Apple Music.

To me it seems like a bug in loading from Music library.

is there any way to open a debug console within djay to see what the software is actually doing in the background or a way to export a error log?

Hi @brunolima and @DJTimTurner, can you please test with Airplane Mode enabled? We’d like to confirm if this is related to Apple Music Streaming or not. Thanks!
