This can of course happen, but there are also easy solutions for this.
- If you edit a popular song to your own version, store it as copy with a new name.
- Check what iTunes-match is doing (you will need to give it some time):
Cloud Status will be either labeled as āuploadedā or
as āduplicateā - Check the cloud status:
If it is labeled āuploadedā, match has detected your edit and everything is fine.
If itās labeled āduplicateā, match has not detected your edit. You will either need to do some more editing (like adding an intro), so match will notice the difference. Or you need to transfer this track to other devices manually. (The sync function will not work)
iTunes-match will not replace any of your tracks on your hard drive, if you do not ask for it.
