YOUR QUESTION:

1.

Device model:

MacBook Pro 16-inch, M1 Max

Version of operating system:

macOS 14.8.9

Version of djay:

djay Pro 5.6.9

Hardware/controllers used:

Pioneer DJ DDJ-REV7, DDJ-SP1

Hardware firmware version:

N/A

YOUR QUESTION:

I’m currently testing djay Pro 5.6.9 and using the External Apps library integration.

My main music library is in Traktor Pro 4. djay can access it directly through TR Collection, and the tracks, playlists and other metadata appear correctly. However, Traktor’s existing Play Count does not seem to appear in djay’s Play Count column.

Could you please clarify:

1. Is djay Pro supposed to read and display the existing PLAYCOUNT directly from Traktor when using TR Collection?

2. If yes, is there any setting, library refresh, analysis, or other step required for the existing Traktor Play Count values to appear?

3. Does djay also read and display existing Play Count values directly through SR Collection (Serato) and RB Collection (Rekordbox)?

4. If Play Count is currently not supported through TR/SR/RB Collections, is support for this metadata planned?

To be clear, I’m specifically asking about direct access through djay’s TR Collection, SR Collection and RB Collection integrations, NOT about converting/importing libraries through DJ Conversion Utility (DJCU2).

My preferred workflow is to keep Traktor as my master library and access it directly from djay, without maintaining a second converted djay library.

Thank you!

Hi @JohnnyDaMix, welcome to the Community! Thanks for the clear write-up.

Play Count isn’t currently documented as one of the fields djay brings in through External Apps, for TR, SR, or RB Collections. The manual says External Apps carries over playlists, tracks, cue points and metadata, and notes that what’s retained varies by app. Since External Apps launched in 5.4, the release notes have listed specific fields as they were added: track colors, composer, ratings, and cues/loops. Play Count isn’t on that list. So there’s no setting, refresh, or analysis step I can point you to that would bring your Traktor counts across.

On roadmap, I can’t speak to future plans. It’s well worth posting as a Suggestion so other Traktor, Serato, and rekordbox users can vote on it, since that’s how the dev team prioritizes requests.

In the meantime, djay keeps its own Play Count. You can show it via **right-click the column header bar \> Play Count**. Your sessions are also logged under **My Collection \> History**. Both will reflect plays in djay, not your existing Traktor history. I hope that helps!

Thanks @Slak_Jaw, that answers my question clearly.

It also matches what I am seeing in my testing: the historical Traktor Play Count is not displayed through TR Collection, while djay starts maintaining its own Play Count for tracks played in djay.

I will submit this as a Suggestion as recommended, ideally for TR, SR and RB Collections, as I think preserving historical Play Count would be very useful for DJs who want to keep their existing DJ software as the master library while using djay for performance.

Thanks again for the clarification!
