Hello, One more thing,
I was wondering if anyone else has noticed this with the RANE Performer when using djay Pro.
The waveforms displayed on the Performer’s built-in screen platters appear to have a much lower resolution than when using Serato DJ Pro or VirtualDJ. They almost look pixelated or “8-bit,” with much less detail, even though the waveform on the computer itself looks perfectly smooth.
I’ve compared it with Serato and VirtualDJ on the same hardware, and the difference is quite noticeable. Since the Performer is clearly capable of displaying high-quality waveforms, I’m wondering if this is simply a limitation of the current djay Pro integration.
Has anyone else experienced this?
If this is expected behavior, I would love to see higher-resolution waveform rendering on the Performer displays in a future update. I think it would significantly improve the user experience.
Thanks!
Hopefully this helps gather feedback from other RANE Performer users and brings the issue to Algoriddim’s attention.
Hi @ThunderZzz, thanks for sharing this. Are you using local files or streaming songs for your comparison? Can you please share some comparison photos of this using the exact same songs from the same source (preferably local files and not streaming files) between djay, Serato and VDJ?
Thank you for your reply. So Please find attached here the picture that shows the comparison between Djay pro, Serato pro and Virtual Dj platter screen waveform where I mentioned that the waveform in Djay is almost look pixelated or “8-bit”. Those are similar song from local file.
Thank you
Hi again @ThunderZzz, thanks for the comparison pictures. I’ve moved this to it’s own topic and copied your setup info from earlier in the thread. Can you please review and update the top post in this thread if any of your setup details have changed. Then I can pass this onto engineering for further review. Thanks!
Thank very much for the help. Here is a small update of my equipment :

I spoke with engineering and they are wondering if you can capture the exact same spot (maybe using hot cues and pausing the track), with the same song across djay, Serato and VDJ. This would allow us to compare apples to apples here. Looking at the images above, to me, djay seems to have higher resolution than the others.
Please ensure that the same zoom setting is used in each app.
Do the waveforms look the same on both Deck 1 and Deck 2 jogwheel screens?
I can confirm that I paused the song before taking photo of the waveform.
I used Same song, all in Max zoomed setting and their waveform are in almost exact position even if I forgot to add hot cue point. (Tested with Deck1 and Deck2 and still similar outcome)
Note : I also tested it with DDJ Rev 7 and the waveform from its screen is likely similar to Serato pro waveform but I don’t know if the Rane performer can’t handle the High image resolution.
Greatly appreciate it for looking at it. By the way, the most urgent fix are if possible fixing the jog wheel behavior along the beat looping and the blended Color FX which are as I stated a month ago in the other discussion chat. Thank you
Hi @ThunderZzz, I spoke with our developers. The waveforms are just drawn with a different style. djay uses some shading whereas the other apps draw a more jagged shape. This is a visual style decision.
Here are some examples of the waveforms displayed on the DDJ-REV7 platter screens when using djay Pro. They look very crisp and high-resolution, with quality comparable to Serato.
Since the RANE PERFORMER is also capable of displaying high-resolution waveforms in Serato, I think it should be possible to achieve similar quality in djay Pro as well.
Could you please raise this issue with the engineering team again and ask whether the waveform resolution on the RANE PERFORMER can be improved?
