Oh no! I really hope the developers can fix it. It’s so frustrating when the main functions are in the DJ program and they’re not available. This is terrible! I’ve actually changed my mind about buying an iPad Pro and installing djay pro on it. I’ll wait until such an opportunity appears.

What does that mean? How can I use them?
The iPad will register most fields that have been edited on your Mac, it just won’t allow you to edit them.
I have given all my tracks a star rating on my Mac and as you can see from the image I can then use them on my iPad

In this image I have added all the other useful fields that once edited on your Mac you can use on your iPad.
Once you get used to the workflow it becomes very useful and handy

It works very similar to the apple music mac/ios workflow.
apple music on ios has very limited functionality, if you want to edit genre, year, grouping, rating etc you can only do it on the mac version.
Once you have edited these on a mac and synced your library the ipad/iphone will recognise the changes you have made.
Djay works in the same way apart from syncing them up which can be done but a little differently
@daniel_curley, thanks for the tip, very useful indeed! This can be applied to both Filtering within the library and as a criteria for the Smart Playlists.
@Slak_Jaw, I am also adding my vote to this request. Grouping, Rating & Comments as columns with value editing ability will be very beneficial to have on the iOS versions as well. I was looking for per-track “Edit Metadata” action in the “…” menu in the track list, but it’s not available. Perhaps that’s a good place to have the per-track editing.
Bulk editing ability for the Grouping and the Ratings values through the “Actions” menu would be very useful.
As the screen estate is limited on the iPad, perhaps an extra “Detailed List” view mode, displaying two lines of text for each tracks (with configurable fields) for the extra values would probably suite us well. Maybe there are other smarter/neater ways of showing it.
Alternatively, A simple “color” tag field for grouping is very easy to show as column, as a color dot would take super little space. Yet, we don’t have “Color” tagging, as alternative to Grouping in Djay. It would be very useful to have, given that that little on-screen space it would need …
I often do library preparation work on the iPad, and the ability to see & set values in these as file tags is most welcome!

That is correct.
Why not? This is a primary feature I rely on. I use star ratings 1-5 for “energy level”.

Hmm, I certainly know of several apps which are able to access the star ratings of songs. They can also edit them. There must be another reason.
Maybe it’s just been forgotten? It should be explored again. It should be easy enough to add?

You must be thinking on PC/Mac? On iOS, even in the Collection, there is no star ratings column. It is there on MacOS.
It’s quite odd because you CAN press the three dots icon to the right of a song and see the star rating, as well as comments, composer, genre, key, grouping.
There’s just limited options on what columns can be added to the browser. IMO, a BIG negative about Djay (iOS). On PC/Mac, you have the option to show any or all of these.
It is a very minor inconveinience that can easily be overcome by the application of djay’s filters or the creation of a few playlists/smartlists. It is not preventing you from moving forward and doing what you want.

Personally, I use star ratings 1-5 for “energy level”, so seeing them at a glance is a big part of my workflow. I’m an open-format DJ and I use smartlists and playlists extensively to organize tracks based on where they belong in the flow of a set.
… but adding smartlists or playlists based on start rating would be convoluted when it’s a data point to be viewed within other playlists… similar to BPM.
So, if you are talking to me… maybe it’s “a minor inconvenience” to you because you don’t use star ratings… but for me it’s an important data point, akin to BPM.
I understand, but you will always hit limitatons with ios and this is one of them. As I previously mentioned in this thread you can apply the rating filter multiple times to a single smartlist which I have used in the past and found to be quite effective. If you really need the instant glance I would suggest using mixed in key or a similar workflow where the energy level is applied to the title either at the front or the end. Judging by the amount of votes this thread has accumulated, ios limitations and algoriddims current focus in other areas I would say this request is not going to happen so if this workflow is crucial to you, you need to find another way.

Are votes on this forum the only factor in what gets developed in DJay’s future? I’d hope not. At this point in DJay’s development, what’s left to focus on except refinements to help users transition from other DJ software with ease - creating parity of features where Djay is lacking?
It seems to me that early Djay relied upon the forums heavily, but now that it’s quite developed, there’s not nearly as much to refine. So, there’s less people even using the community forum. I’d be curious to know the actual active userbase of the forum, charted over time.
But even still, for those who do ask for star ratings in the browser, it’s a big deal. And, a simple change to implement, and also not a change which affects anyone negatively.
Filters are great! But they do not allow you to sort by star rating.
Also, the filters for Local Music are limited and do not include star ratings. Personally, I use iTunes to organize my music, with tons of smart playlists.
