Syncing library, cue points, beatgrids, music from MacBook to iPad

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for some advice on the best practice for managing and syncing my music library between my devices when using djay Pro.

My current setup is:

  • Reloop Mixon 8 Pro

  • MacBook – used for managing my music library in djay Pro (setting cue points, adjusting beatgrids, organizing playlists, etc.)

  • iPad – used for mixing with the Reloop Mixon 8 Pro

My question is:
What is the recommended workflow for managing the music library on the MacBook and then synchronizing everything to the iPad, including:

  • music files

  • cue points

  • beatgrids

  • playlists

Ideally I’d like to do all preparation on the MacBook and then have everything available on the iPad without losing metadata or analysis data.

What are you using as the most reliable method? (iCloud, Finder sync, external drive, etc.)

Thanks in advance for any tips!

Don’t use iCloud. It come with a lot of problems.

I can recommend this video from Mix Master G:

For a full library sync to ios including smartlists and data to use this method, be carefull to follow the instructions carefully.

If you simply want to transfer files or regular playlists with all data included One Library is very stable and reliable

Hi Daniel,

I have heard about OneLibrary. Does this also include the beatgrids?

It’s done all mine but that’s not very many as djay generally gets it bang on. It’s a very easy process so I would try it with a couple of tracks and see how you get on

Hi @Casper_Gorter, I recommend you look into using OneLibrary. Please note however, that this is currently only one-way exportable from macOS to iOS. Based on your description above, this sounds like it will be fine for your workflow.

I use iTunes on a Windows 11 PC and then I connect whichever IOS device and sync it. You could use a Mac to do the same thing only the app is called Apple Music instead of iTunes. Does the same thing but only incorporates an Apple Music account if you have one. A bit primitive but it’s still supported and it works well. I organize all my audio and video files, and playlists within iTunes, and then connect the IOS device via USB cable and then do a sync. One thing I like about iTunes is the ability to create Dynamics playlists. I tried Apple’s cloud solution (Apple Music) at one point, and it doesn’t support Dynamic playlists. Can’t live without that at this point because it saves a ton of work and automatically adds songs and video based on your criteria. It’s a game changer.

There are some caveats with iTunes, but I know how to work around them. I have a lot of experience using this method and can’t find a better reliable way to automatically sync the libraries on my devices without a lot of manual labor. Not big on the idea of using flash drives as they can fail.

Thanks for the input @elltkeen

Yes…. OneLibrary it is.. Works great for my setup
