Tidal track versus local version track — need some help

Hi,

I started my journey with Djay Pro four years ago as a total Dj beginner — just for fun (never been in the Dj world).
So I started to have fun on my iPhone with my Spotify playlist — then I switched to Tidal.

In the meantime, the fun became a passion and after 2 years playing as a bedroom dj, I started to take it seriously — I purchased a Rane One and I started to build seriously my Tidal playlist (by also making all the cue points) and to play at some friends parties, always on my iPhone connected to the Rane One.

And this year, I get my first pro gigs — I mixed at some little festivals in France (around 500 people). So I had to step up my game — it was no longer possible to rely to iPhone mobile connection for Tidal, above all when you have hundred people around.

So I started to use a MacBook Pro (now connected to a Rane One MK2) and so I had to have all my Tidal playlist downloaded as local tracks.

And now problems start — some tracks were downloaded with minor changes on the track name (like “( )” instead of “-”) and so they don’t share metadata. But if you manually correct the name of the local file to match the Tidal file, they still don’t share metadata.

Tracks downloaded with the exact same name share the grid and the cue points but both files don’t have the exact same start so grid and cues are misaligned on the downloaded track. And if I want to correct by nudging the grid on the local file, the grid will also nudge on the Tidal one. Moreover, if you try to analyse again the local file, nothing happens.

Sometimes it’s the cue points that are misaligned — but here we have no tools to nudge cue point or all cue points, haven’t we ?

If I need to redo all grid and cue points of all my 1000 tracks, I will do it but what a pain !
I need to improve my knowledge about library management — thanks for the help.

Hi @Julien_Apruzzese, this is expected behaviour given your workflow. First the songs need to be identical for djay to carry over the metadata (Title, Artist, Remix, Duration, etc.). Also, if there is a difference in encoding or quality between your streaming version and local version, a small offset for the hot cues is expected. You will notice the same offset issue if you change the streaming quality of your Tidal songs after adding hot cues.

Could it be a great solution to have the ability to nudge all cues like we can with the grid ?

Thanks for the suggestion @Julien_Apruzzese

Encoder shift! This is a serious nightmare but one has to just re-do the cues afresh (as n when we play the tracks). The more serious issue is the shifted grid! Sorry but djay tends to have fuss whenever it meets double copies of same track, even in local files only.
