A) SUMMARY OF ISSUE:

  • Controller MIDI is not being detected, it seems to turn on in the MIDI mode but isn’t responsive to anything I do.

B) DETAILED STEPS TO REPRODUCE:

  1. Connected my Controller’s MIDI device

  2. Is then connected

  3. Attempted to use the controller

  4. No response

C) EXPECTED RESULTS:

  • Usually I have always powered my Controller in MIDI mode and then been able to mix from there with no issues.

D) ACTUAL RESULTS:

  • When I attempt to connect my controller in MIDI mode I get no response from my deck to the software

Is your controller an S3 (as stated in your title) or an S4 (as stated in your post)?

If it’s an S4 then it’s not natively supported. Also there are MIDI issues with Windows at the moment.

Hi @Miahmyuh, welcome to the Community! PKtheDJ is correct - thanks.

  1. Please confirm that your hardware is the S3 not the S4.
  2. If you are using the S3, make sure you switch it into MIDI Mode: How to set up the Traktor Kontrol S2 MK3 or S3 with djay | Algoriddim Support
  3. Also there are known issues with Windows 11 25H2. Please see linked topic for some workarounds: My controller is not working after updating Windows | Algoriddim Support

Thanks!

It’s an S3 that’s my mistake, I’m gonna try what other guy said and go from there.

Thanks for confirming @Miahmyuh. I have edited your original post to change it from S4 to S3.

Uninstalling the outlined Windows 11 updates should hopefully solve your issue then.

It’s not allowing me to uninstall those specific updates as it my put my laptop “at risk”

Hi @Miahmyuh, then I recommend you contact Microsoft Windows Support for instructions on how to rollback to Windows 11 24H2.

Hi again @Miahmyuh,

ATTENTION / UPDATE:

Microsoft has released a targeted fix for issues with the new Windows MIDI stack. They are planning to roll out this fix to all users in April/May, but have made it available for download/installation as a short-term fix as well (see link below).

Hello everyone, we have created a how-to video for restarting the MIDI service on Windows. This has also been added to our main Help Center article:

Hello everyone, we released a supplemental update to Windows djay 5.6.4 on April 10 which should fix the issue where MIDI controllers are not detected. We added a small workaround which should ensure that the Windows MIDI Service is started on app launch. I hope that helps!
