YOUR QUESTION / SUGGESTION / FEEDBACK:
Is there any way to change the FX that are set when you press the 6 FX buttons in the middle of the controller?
I’ve dug into the midi messages being sent, and they don’t appear in the MIDI mapping at all. So I’m not sure how the controller is telling DJAY what FX to set. I can manually set FX1 in DJAY and the wet/dry and FX1Param work, but as soon as I hit a button the FX change back to the default.
It’s kind of silly to have these buttons include HPF and LPF as they are literally right next to the filter knob. I also never use Flanger or Phaser. There’s gotta be some way to remap what FX those buttons choose, right?
There doesn’t seem to be any kind of SYSEX going on that I can tell beyond initial handshake…
Hi @Drumunkey, welcome to the Community! Unfortunately, those FX buttons cannot be changed in the djay settings or via the MIDI learn tool. These have been hard coded under the hood for this specific device. If you have experience editing XML files, you might be able to change these via the code, but I don’t recommend this if you don’t know what you’re doing.
Well, I do know how to deal with XML, and I’ve poked into the file generated when I duplicate and export the built in bindings but I didn’t see anything obvious indicating where the fx are set.
Can you give me direction or a good hint?
Unfortunately. I can’t help you there. I don’t have access to this device and I’m definitely not an expert when it comes to modifying XML files. Sorry I couldn’t be of more help on this one @Drumunkey
Ok, thanks. Can you at least do me a favor and ask a dev or something if it is indeed buried in the XML on iOS and not some kind of hardcoded sysex or something? This is a really good controller for djay but really under exploited. I’ll post my solution here to help people out if you’ll help me.
You’re welcome @Drumunkey. I checked with our devs and it turns out I was wrong about this being handled in the XML code. These buttons are hard coded elsewhere and cannot be user modified via the MIDI Learn tool or the XML file. Sorry about that. Wish I had better news for you.
Bummer. Any chance you can slip in a feature request to have a few entries in the XML to act as an override to the defaults? Seems like that should be pretty simple.
Hi again @Drumunkey, I have changed this topic to a Suggestion and have adjusted the title slightly. I’ll pass this onto our devs for consideration. In the meantime, please use the blue Vote button at the top left of this page so we can gauge user demand for this feature.
