    B. Filesystem (APFS/exFAT/HFS+):
    C. How exactly is it connected (direct USB-C vs hub/dock)?
  4. If you re-import the exact same folder two or three times, does the playlist land on the same count each time and drop the same specific files, or does the count vary between attempts?
  5. Can you please identify which videos are not copying over and determine if there is something in common such as file type (.mov or .m4v vs .mp4), codec (HEVC/H.265 vs H.264), resolution, file size, long or special-character filenames, or duplicate titles?
  6. Does the source folder include any hidden files, sidecar files, subfolders, or non-video items?
  7. For the large folder, if you wait and re-check after an hour or two, does the count climb toward the full number?
  8. Can you try copying one of the affected folders to the iPad’s internal storage and import from there. Does the full count import?
  9. Please try adding the large folder in smaller batches and see whether the loss disappears.

  • djay v5.6.6

3. Please provide details for your external SSD:

  • A. Model: WD Green SN350 NVMe SSD

  • B. File system (APFS/exFAT/HFS+): exFAT

  • C. How exactly is it connected (direct USB-C vs hub/dock)? Connected via a Ugreen Hub (however, connecting it directly via USB-C without the hub yields the same result).

4. If you re-import the same folder two or three times, does the playlist reach the exact same count every time and drop the same specific files, or does the count vary between attempts?

  • It keeps the exact same count. It doesn’t change or vary between attempts.

5. Can you identify which videos are not copying and determine if there is anything in common, such as file type (.mov or .m4v vs .mp4), codec (HEVC/H.265 vs H.264), resolution, file size, long or special character filenames, or duplicate titles?

  • All files are .mp4 using the H.264 codec.

6. Does the source folder include any hidden files, sidecar files, subfolders, or non-video items?

  • No. It does not contain any hidden folders or subfolders.

7. For the large folder, if you wait and check again after an hour or two, does the count climb toward the full number?

  • No. Even after waiting for two hours, the count remains lower and does not increase.

  • I have already tried importing them from the iPad’s internal memory, and the count still remains lower.

So, I did the tests here as you requested, inside the iPad, and I included the songs internally, inside my iPad, and I created two folders: ‘Internal 1’ and ‘Internal 2’. As you can see, I included the five tracks that were inside the iPad into ‘Internal 1’—there were five tracks, but only four tracks came through. I created a second folder named ‘Internal 2’ just as a reference to confirm they are indeed inside my internal iPad. I included the songs here inside this ‘Internal 2’ folder, however, only 202 out of 389 came through, so they still continue not to show up, even internally.

What did I do now? I took a program called MediaInfo and extracted some codec information from the songs. So I left—I’m going to send the image—two pieces of information from two songs that the system, that the software read normally, okay? And two that do not appear from those ‘Internal’ ones that I put here inside ‘Internal’, so you can see the difference, if there is any difference. It could be that I don’t understand much about codecs or information like that, but apparently, the system was supposed to recognize them. Because if it recognizes them inside my external SSD, it can see them and I can run them inside the software, as a mirror of my—by creating a playlist, it would be the mirror of my external SSD. And why do I want to create a playlist? Because through the playlist, the reading is faster, I believe it works that way.

Hi again @MarcosAraujo, thank you for running through all of those tests so carefully — that’s super helpful and it’s narrowed things down a lot. To recap what your testing has confirmed on our side:

  • It happens from the iPad’s internal storage as well as the external SSD, so it isn’t tied to the drive, the exFAT format, or the UGreen hub.
  • It’s fully consistent — the same count and the same files every time you re-import.
  • Waiting a couple of hours doesn’t change the count, and importing in smaller batches doesn’t help either.
  • The MediaInfo you pulled shows the affected files are standard .mp4 / H.264 with AAC audio, which are formats djay supports, so on paper they should import.

Comparing the MediaInfo for the files that import against the ones that don’t, they look very similar — both sets are supported MP4/H.264 files, and nothing in the metadata by itself points to an obvious reason one group imports and the other doesn’t. Because of that, the most useful next step is for the team to test the actual files rather than just the specs.

Could you help with a few things when you have a moment:

  • Upload two of the actual video files to your Google Drive/Dropbox, enable sharing permissions then send a link to the files to me via DM: one that imports correctly and one that does not. A matched pair like that lets the team reproduce it with your real files.
  • From one folder, the list of the specific filenames that get dropped, so we can confirm it’s the same files each time across the different locations you tested.

No rush — whenever you can get those together is fine. Once we have the sample files we can move this forward for a closer look. Thanks again for the detailed reports and the videos, they make a real difference!
