Xone:K3 Official Support

I’m using two K3s on iOS that I mapped primarily for Neural Mix use.

Thanks for sharing @contium

Yeah, that is a bummer. People have been making that request on the Xone forums, so Allen & Heath is aware. Hopefully, we see an update. Otherwise, the K3 is a great match for the Mixtour Pro and 24C.

Thanks for that @Michael_Wisniewski

Hey yall. I’m having all sorts of mapping issues with my k3. deets below:

  • Device model (e.g. 2020 iPad Air 4th Gen): Macbook Pro 14 2023 M3

  • Version of operating system (e.g. macOS 14.4.1): Sequoia 15.7.3

  • Version of djay (e.g. 5.1.2): 5.6.1

  • Hardware/controllers used (e.g. Reloop Mixon 8 Pro): Allen & Heath Xone k3

  • Hardware firmware version (e.g. 1.0.1): 1.0.4

Example 01:

Mapping button (1) to set a cue (works) but it automatically plays the track even when “Auto play when triggering a que point” is de-selected. Also led does not respond correctly.

Map the same button (1) with a shift function to delete the cue point and it no longer recognizes the original mapping to set the cue point now only sees the shift function to delete cue point.

delete both mappings and now button (1) no longer works, no longer pops up in the midi mapping panel. I have to disconnect the controller for it to work again.

Update: I delete both midi commands and the button is still performing the shift function. (with no mapping present)

**This happens whenever I map a shift function on any control. Thus making mapping what i need mostly impossible.

Also other led mapping problems, quirks that make no sense and kept me up to the wee hours.. lol.

Ive re-installed the firmware on k3 no change.

Update - I have factory reset the k3 no difference.

Anyone else have this issue?

* At the end of the video I’m pressing the play button and its loading the track.

The Mixtour Pro is a fantastic controller, but for long DJ sets, open formats, and where the audience sometimes comes to greet or talk to you, the deep layering of all the functions can be a major strain on your concentration. After a few hours, you'll start to miss the comfort level needed to work effectively. The K3s are excellent for solving this problem:

The pushbuttons on the top four encoders are:

1 / 4 / 16 and 32 beat loops, respectively. Without looking at the screen, you can blindly set a loop without any surprises. The rotary function of the first encoder is loop size.

Of the bottom two encoders, the left one is Tempo (increments of 0.1 bpm with shift

I pasted a google translation of my reply but i see it not work so well

In short: the Xone K3 is a good help for the mixtour pro. You can make anything you really need from djay, hands on without the need to look to your screen. Like you want to loop a accapella chorus: only need to push the mapped stems vocal solo and a mapped 32 beats auto loop, it take only 2 seconds to perform that without thinking. You can do on the mixtour also: Firtst select the deck, then change pad mode to stems, then press loop and check loopsize on the screen and adjust it with deck select button in conjunction with the autoloop and synq buttons. It can be done but not so intuitive.

Thanks! I’m curious, what do you use all those extra faders and rotary encoders for? With two K3s, you’re looking at a ton of options…

I’m thinking about getting another MIDI controller. I also have a Mixtour Pro (and a Xone 24C). An additional benefit would be being able to map and learn everything once, no matter which mixer I use.

I’m not sure which controller I’m going to pick though.

No mather what controller you use, the main question is what do you really need when you play your set. Those things need to be as much “hands on” as possible. You need to find those actions in a natural way, and as most dj booths are dark spaces, you need proper feedback from the controllers you use.

Regarding the Mixtour Pro: amazing machine, but for my workflow the controller goes in many cases one step to far. I wish there was a Mixtour Pro version where deck 1/3 en deck 2/4 dont need to chare buttons and pads as a start. Also important tools like pitch bend, tempo, key up and down, to name a few basic dj tools to mix, need to be accessable without thinking for deck select or even shift mode. As for now the addition of 2 Xone K3’s make it not to difficult to handle this, while everything still fit in one bag and stay portable.

In the meantime, i still dream for the ultimate controller:

4 decks

No jogwheels

32 asignable pads / deck !!

16 push encoders / deck

Complete set of transport controls / deck

A good soundcard

And above all: please no drivers needed so it can work on everything

I’m fascinated to try out the Mixtour Pro. Just to see if it will work with my workflow, but as I have big reservations that I’ll fit with it, I’ve just bought one from eBay 2nd hand.

I’m already looking how I can map various things, like beat jump, but I think fundamentally the Mixtour Pro is just missing a few buttons. But I’m excited to at least try one out.

I think paring a Mixtour Pro with a A&H k3 or a Denon LC6000 makes a lot of sense. But I’ll be definitely hanging fire on a k3 until the wrinkles are addressed with the mapping options (colour coded cue points for example).

Do you have any shift functions mapped on the k3?

Yes, for example one encoder for tempo: 0.1 bpm / + shift is 1 bpm (play with speed setting). Turn the encoder without shift for precise beatmatching, with shift for fast tempo changes. Pushing the encoder is tempo reset.

The pad just above the shift button is “set downbeat” as a very useful tool also.

And the 4 buttons above the faders are stems solo + shift they are stems mute (Nice with the echo out effect)

Nice. How did you map the 8 faders?

Oh very easy they control the 4 stems faders. Together with the 4 pads above them, they mirror the stems tab from the software.

Nice! That’s exactly how I would have mapped it.
