Ability to play stem.mp4 files

I love that you are able to play with stems in djay! The stems are useable and sound super clean! But the problem is, those stems only work in real-time. Sometimes, we have studio quality stems of tracks (pretty rare, but not completely) that we can prepare in a file to play in our DJ sets.
I want the ability to play .stem.mp4 files or even better, a new stems file format that’s supported across all DJ platforms (djay, Rekordbox, Serato, etc.)

Agree on the global stems file format, but I think you answered your own question with the studio quality stems files, if they are rare then it’s unlikely resource will be freed up to develop a solution for them.

Thanks for the suggestion and welcome to the community @Nguy_n_Nam. I’ve shared this with our dev team for consideration.

Glad I found this thread. I’m a Traktor user looking to move to DJay. I tend to work with a lot of older tracks and do harmonic mixes/mash-ups, so using Stems is key. I take the track, use SpectraLayers/Cubase to get stems and sometimes edit the mix/structure, then export the stems and use the Native Instruments tool to create MP4 Stem files. Quality varies (and I think it’s only 128/256 MP3 in the Stem files), but it’s always better than real-time analysis. Sadly, I think I’m going to have the huge task of converting all my stem files to mixed down stereo files to do the mixes live. So, I would add that it would be wonderful to be able to create some kind of file format (NI, MP4 or anything I can export from Steinberg Cubase/SpectraLayers) thaty could be loaded into DJay.

Hi @Funky_Booth, welcome to the Community! Thanks for the additional input. Please don’t forget to Vote at the top left of this page.

I would 100% use this feature. Ableton LIve now has built in Stem seperation, so for me this makes creating Stems far more accessible. I would go one step further and say that having the ability to import/tag/link stems to the "original” track file and those stems automatically load into the four stem slots (effectively giving you HQ offline stems) would be awesome.

I understand that this is all wishful thinking, but as someone that has spent over 30 years working in software development, I’ve learn’t that… “If you don’t ask, you never get!”.
