Accessibility voiceover for "Active Deck" in 4 Deck Mode

Device model mac book pro m4 max

  • Version of operating system macOS 26.3.1

  • Version of djay 5.6.3

  • Hardware/controllers used Reloop Mixon 8 Pro

  • Hardware firmware version 5339

    Hello.

I’d like to ask if there’s a way to read which deck is being used when in 4 deck mode from the controller with the screen reader voiceover.

  • Asking because when using the 4 decks, i have no way to know if the currently controlled deck is deck1 or 3/2 or 4, so i often end up pressing play only to find out that i stopped an active deck, instead of playing the intended one. The way i’m keeping track of it is with the fx paddle of the deck i’m controlling, using it as a tactile memory, but it’s not really a great solution, and sometimes i forget to change them while doing quick things.

  • So, was wandering if there was a way to have this information accessible somehow, or if it could be added as a feature request.

  • Also, let me take a second to congratulate for the amazing job on the accessibility. I started djing only cause you allowed that to happen. So, thanks

Sorry for the list in the message as well. Couldn’t find the way to disable the thing

Hi @dave_scalambrin, sorry for the delayed reply. This is not currently possible, as we don’t track or show the selected deck of a MIDI controller in djay. Maybe you could use a third party tool to trigger a VoiceOver event from the MIDI event whenever you tap the deck switch button on the controller?

Hi, Fellow Voiceover user here.

Although not a direct solution to your issue, have you thought about using the Hot Spot functionality within Voiceover?

I have Hotspots set with keyboard shortcuts for me to be able to press to check the current time of each deck.

My thinking is that you could set a Hot Spot for the playing time on each of the 4 decks, this way you could keep track of any track progress and see which deck is playing.

You might also be able to set the Hot Spot focused on the play button on screen for each deck to keep track of whether this is selected or not.
Although I haven’t tried focusing on the play button or other elements apart from the BPM and play time, so not sure if that would work.

Worth playing around with different Hot Spot options though in case this helps solve the problem.

Thanks for sharing @actsofblindness

Hi. Thing is that i don’t need to know which track is playing, but which deck is currently controlled from the midi controller. And there seems to be no way to obtain this info in the software. The problem is that while playing 4 decks, i find myself having 3 tracks playing at the same time. And even if i’m not, it still doesn’t help identifying which deck i’m currently manipulating, since it might not be the playing onesay which deck is the controller

Issue is that i don’t need an event to occur when the button is pressed, but a way to check a current status. So, don’t know if there could be any way for this

Understood. Thanks for clarifying @dave_scalambrin.

Unfortunately, that status is only tracked inside the controller at the moment.
