Device model: iPad Air 4th Gen USB-C
Version of operating system: IOS 18.2.1
Version of djay: latest Pro Version
Hardware Used: Hercules Starlight
Afternoon
I play in a function band and play music in between sets/after. I currently run djay pro through my IPad Air. I connect to our band’s PA through a USB C /3.5 jack splitter to a DI box so I can charge the IPad and get an audio out to front of house.
I want to re-live by 1210 DJ days and start to DJ as opposed to running a playlist. I have bought a Hercules Starlight controller. I would like to hook it up to my iPad, charge the iPad, power the Starlight and also get sound to the DI box.
I’ve searched the forum and spent a lot of time online but I’m still not 100% certain on the best adapters to use.
I have considered the Apple AV adapter which will slow me to use the standard USB lead with the Starlight, but wasn’t sure if I could use a belkin rockstar or something that doesn’t cost £80.
Any advice greatly appreciated! Please feel free to explain this to me at the level of a 12 year old as I can’t quite get my head around it
Would this combination work?

Hi @Capurnicus, welcome to the Community!
- I’m not familiar with the specific Belkin USB-C adapter, but based on the specs, this looks like it could work as it has 60W PD. Belkin is also a reputable brand.
- However, if I were you, I’d probably look for a more traditional, multiport USB-C hub. I personally prefer the UGreen, Anker and Baseus brands.
a. This is the one that I use with my iPad, but there are lots of similar options out there: Amazon.com
b. Mainly, you want to make sure that you have at least on 60W pass-thru PD USB-C socket, one regular USB-C socket and one USB-A socket.
c. This way you’ll be able to use the existing USB-A to Micro-USB cable that came with your Starlight
d. Plus you will have more flexibility to connect other devices to your iPad like and external HDMI monitor, a USB Drive or even a second MIDI controller.
I hope that helps!

Hi there, thanks very much!
Based on your post I have purchased a Rockstar adapter and can confirm it works well with a USB C to USB Mini lead from the adapter to the Starlight.
I prefer a smaller unit to a hub as it’s being mounted on a keyboard. Can recommend this to anyone that’s looking for a cost effective way to operate DJay Pro with a Starlight controller and IPad with a UBC C port.
Thanks again
Rob
You’re welcome @Capurnicus. Thanks for the follow up. Glad to hear you got it sorted out.
