Hi all,
First of all, it’s great to work with the flexible and non-technical MIDI mapping functionality in djay. I think it’s incredibly helpful that by pressing, turning, or moving a control on the MIDI device, the corresponding function is automatically highlighted in the configuration screen.
However, since there are hundreds of MIDI functions and many controls on modern controllers serve multiple purposes (such as pad banks or jog wheels with shift layers), the current layout of the MIDI mapping screen can become quite daunting to navigate.
The dark blue lines that indicate the primary functions and light blue lines for secondary functions are helpful, but it’s still challenging to get a clear overview of how a specific control is fully mapped—especially when trying to make precise adjustments.
Suggested Improvement:
I propose adding an option to the MIDI configuration screen that allows users to filter and display only the active functions associated with the currently triggered control. For example, when a button, knob, or jog wheel is activated on the controller, the screen would display a concise list of all MIDI assignments linked specifically to that control (including both primary and secondary layers). Toggling this option off would return the view to the full list.
This feature would greatly improve clarity and make it much easier to:
- Understand how a single control is mapped across different layers
- Quickly identify overlapping or conflicting functions
- Make targeted changes without getting lost in the complete list of mappings
This relatively small UI enhancement could significantly streamline the custom mapping process—especially for users working with complex or layered controller setups.
