for the first point : I see no indication Algoriddim has interest in supporting SoundSwitch. I mean, the Ableton link thing is generic - not particularly a move towards SoundSwitch.
and the last point : Passing over BPM info is not enough. We need song title, fader positions, etc (just like Serato and VDJ do).
I also agree with you that the real reasons about things that are not implemented probably are not always technical. As much as I appreciate @Slak_Jaw (may he enjoy a peaceful and well deserved time off), I do experience increased Algoriddim fatigue about "I will pass this over to the developer team for consideration”, because never ever do we get any feed-back about top requests. Except for the UI/performance pad topic, i.e. : It’s three-years old complicated.
As much as I’d love to see SoundSwitch support, I think adding something like local deck OSC broadcast over UDP would solve most of our issues. That way, the community could build integrations for all the different lighting software ourselves (and other cool stuff)
It would open up far more possibilities than only supporting SoundSwitch, especially if dedicated SoundSwitch support is difficult from the developers’ side or not an priority.
OSC / WebSocket support would also make it possible to create integrations for iOS etc, so the community built integrations could potentially work on all the platforms Djay Pro supports today.
Hey @julianb ,
I am not as tech savvy as you are, but I’d like to add something you are not mentioning.
Soundswitch uses standard OS2L (Open Sound to Light protocol). So we are talking about being open to a standard, not a specific tool.
And from what I understand, all we need is one way input from Djay to OS2L.
There is no feed-back needed.
Honestly, it is a minor work. I don’t want to underestimate, but in this case, it is really simple stuff, like, for real. The only attention point is that the feed must be continuous and in real time (fader and cross-fader positions). But always one way.
Now, honestly, if Algoriddim doesn’t want to reckon that Djing is about sound AND LIGHT.
So, be it. And I will move to Serato. No bid deal. But at least, Algoriddim should make this clear.
What is so difficult about giving feed-back to the community from time to time.
Maybe it shows, but I am not amused by this Algoriddim behaviour anymore.
And in realize that saying everything “I understand, no problem”, doesn’t help…
Especially when I actually do not understand. Sigh !!!
