I wish Algoriddim would select some hardware gear and support 100% this reduced list.
Instead of being "kinda"compatible with a longer list.
I guess a lot of people (it is my case at least), see this long list as “yes” (if=100%) or “no”(if <100%), anyway.
In particular, when upgrading hardware, one probably wants to have jog-screens.
Not that it is that useful, but it is part of the pleasure (having a fully functional package).
If think this might be something to seriously look into for Algoriddim to become more mainstream.
For example, some reference gear like the DDJ-FLX10 should be fully compatible (absolute 100%), including jog wheels.
I understand this is easier said than done, as Algoriddim would probably need to put in dedicated efforts, plus Pioneer/AT/Serato/Rekordbox might not be all that supportive.
At the end of the day, Algoriddim is probably making the best software, but is only 100% compatible with lower tier gear (except if Reloop comes out with updated / higher class gear, soon).
So, there is a marketing mismatch, according to me : Best Software but only for lower hardware, or half-supported. This is not a sustainable path to victory, imho.
My proposal : Algoriddim should choose some selected gear (a reduced list) to be compatible with (100%), instead of “we are roughly compatible with a long list of gear”. This reduced list should include some top gear. Otherwise they would be a marketing issue (top software must include top gear). And Algoriddim should absolutely step into the jog screen part.
Thanks for the suggestion @Davidv100. I have forwarded this to the dev team for consideration. Please note that the hardware manufacturer needs to unlock access to their screens before we can add support for them in djay. We have reached out to the manufacturers requesting this, but it will help to expedite the process if djay users could also contact the manufacturers and express their interest in having screens unlocked for Algoriddim djay. Every voice helps. Thanks for your support!
Thank you for your reply, as always, @Slak_Jaw.
But just one clarification.
I think this is more a message to Algoriddim management team than it is to the development team.
My humble view is that Algoriddim is making all the right technical moves:
Computer power is evolving so fast that it seems indeed much smarter to relay all processing to a computer or an iPad.
In particular, an iPad is so easy to carry that it makes the controller+iPad bundle a real “standalone solution”, much more versatile than current standalone.
Djay is praised by everyone who has tested it (except for cross-platform compatibility).
The Stem separation is second to none, thanks to NeuralMix.
Apple Music Integration (key selling point, kudos ! - Now awaiting NeuralMix agreement on this)
It is clever to tiptoe into Virtual Reality already, even if very early.
But the lack of premium tier controllers being really supported 100% is blatant, and not good for Algoriddim forward. So, imho, this is management/board team level.
With Rane now acquired by InMusic (Denon DJ, Akaï, so many others), there is such an evident move here that I personally do not understand with managements are not talking more.
Algoriddim should be 100% fully compliant, even before the hardware is out, with Denon DJ Prime 4+, Rane Four (but I know the class compliant caveat), Rane Performer.
Then obviously, DDJ-FLX10, REV5, XDJ-AZ… but I understand this is “the other team”, so maybe more difficult.
Still, if Virtual DJ or Traktor can do it, why not Algoriddim.
I understand the request that users should contact the manufacturers (“every voice counts”), but the main move must be a management move, imho.
Thanks for the heads up Davidv100. I saw the DDJ-FLX10 on the list and almost bought it thinking it is fully compatible. Glad I didn’t get the FLX10. I’ll keep looking. I can map most functions, but usually can’t map jog wheels and I have to have jogs. That sucks the FLX10 isn’t fully compatible.
Hi @ameratom, please note that the jog wheels on the FLX10 are functional and properly MIDI mapped. However, the jog wheel screens are NOT currently supported.
Yes, that’s my whole point : top tier hardware is not supported 100%, which, for most of us, I guess, translates into NOT supported - I mean : who wants to DJ with “No Driver Installed” reading on both jogs.
And that’s the whole marketing issue I am pointing here.
Following advice of members here, I will:
Wait for NAMM (end of Jan 2025).
Hope Denon DJ releases some splendid new hardware and hope Algoriddim will do the right move and support it 100% (including screens).
Otherwise, I will go with the DDJ-REV5 (no screens), which appears to be “close to 100% supported” (a few last bugs to iron out, but no screen issue as there are none). Actually, the DDJ-REV5 is all I need, but as I like to buy long term (and treat myself once in a while, let’s be honest), I would go for the latest shiny Denon DJ top tier toy (because they seem to be forward looking), presented at NAMM (otherwise, REV5).
Also, @ameratom, beware : no RANE Four or RANE Performer if you want the comfort of using an iPad. But this has nothing to do with Algoriddim (who makes the best software, kudos), it is a dumb, and un-understandable move my RANE (hardware not “class compliant” → no iPad (for now at least)). And XDJ-AZ is not built with Stems in mind, as it is first intended to be a standalone controller (not enough computing power internally as all pure standalone’s. And therefore old school move - So, Algoriddim is the way to go - but please be 100% compatible with top tier clever hardware).
Yes. agree with this. I would find out how other 3rd party software (VritualDJ) are able to get HID-like functionality from gear like the FLX10. As someone who goes back and forth between Rekordbox and Djay, it’s so miuch nicer to have the waveform on the display instead of on a laptop/ipad.
In the meantime, I would humbly encourage Algoriddim to train feeding the HID of the screen-equipped controllers, using a new dedicated mode, like a deeper “Hardware mode”.
Maybe “HID mode”, where everything would be more condensed using smaller fonts.
(I know some people request the opposite : larger fonts).
But I still think my suggestion makes lot of sense. Algoriddim should already practice to show everything “HID” like, so we can already report on ongoing progress, as users awaiting HID integration.
Especially on Djay for iPad, obviously.
