Allow Users to Disable Automatic Sync Features

I’m a returning user to DJay Pro, having purchased it early on in v2. Djay has me excited about DJ’ing again since it became more of a job and less fun. The UI feels fresh, and being an open-format DJ, the flexible beatgrids are clutch.

Having been on Traktor for the past 15 years, I’ve become accustomed to having full control over various functions. Djay’s “automatic” features make me uneasy about taking it into gigs.
Currently, it seems as though DJay makes an automatic change of the deck master based on the crossfader position. But not everyone uses the crossfader. I actually disable the crossfader and almost entirely use EQ for mixing.

While reading various threads in the forum, I came across a thread asking for an explanation of DJay’s Tempo Sync / Tempo Sync Master / Tempo Reset features. I wanted to know what “Set Tempo Master” does, since it’s available in Djay’s MIDI mappings, but seems to do nothing. It seems to be overrided by Djay’s automatic changes of the deck master based on crossfader position.

In Djay, it seems there’s no way to disable this automatic tempo sync feature. And as @Slak_Jaw shared, despite there being a “Set Sync Master” function in Djay, there’s no indicator for it.

In Traktor, I use “Set Sync Master” constantly.
Doing this, I know which deck controls the tempo.
I can’t accidentally reset the tempo of an active deck if I make a tempo change on another deck.

This is the most glaringly dangerous automatic feature… but I’d like more control in general. For instance, I’d like to be able to disable auto-loop automatically playing a deck when enabled.

I get it… Djay is heavily focused on automatic mixing features. But these should not be forced. Users should be able to turn them off and use Djay as an interchangeable and accessible alternative, benefitting from DJay’s incredible beatgrids and multi-device compatibility and sync of cues.

Thanks for reading and voting!

Hi @skymakai, thanks for the suggestion! I’ll share this with the dev team for consideration. It sounds like a Sync Master Indicator for each deck would go a long ways towards meeting your needs.

Thank you! I think pairing an indicator with a function to disable the crossfader’s override of the master deck, both need to be done at the same time.

You’re welcome. Thanks for the additional info.

I would love to see this as well, as someone who also recently returned to djay after years away it throws me off all the time trying to force djay to use the deck I want as sync master. Or just a global tempo option, that would be even better!
