Apple Music - access denied

  • Version of djay: 5.2.6
  • Hardware/controllers used. Pioneer DDJ 200

**Summary of the issue:
Trying to login with Apple Music with my son’s Apple ID, but I get the message “Access Denied”. Age restriction is ok (13 years, Belgium - not in the list of countries with other age requirements afaik).
The account is part of a family sharing plan - the subscription was purchased with another Apple ID (father). Could this be the issue and how to solve?

I’d rather not give my son access through my account since his playlists will show up in my account and mess up my proposed music. Lets say we have - ahum - different taste in music

Thanks for your advice!

Could it be related to explicit content (i.e. you need to block that content first)?

Hi @jmb, welcome to the Community! Please try the following and let me know if one of these solves your issue:

  1. Log Out and Back Into iCloud:
    a. Close djay then Go to Settings > [Your Son’s Name] > Sign Out.
    b. Restart the device.
    c. Sign back into iCloud and try Apple Music again.

  2. Ensure no specific restrictions block Apple Music:
    a. Parental controls might restrict access inadvertently.
    b. Temporarily disable restrictions and check if the issue persists.

  3. Check Account Restrictions:
    a. On the Family Organizer’s Apple ID:
    b. Go to Settings > Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions.
    c. Verify that Music, Podcasts, and News is set to Allow.

  4. Check Regional Settings:
    a. Go to Settings > General > Language & Region.
    c. Ensure the Region is set to Belgium.
    d. If not, update the region and restart the device.

  5. Verify Family Sharing Settings:
    a. From the Family Organizer’s (your Apple ID):
    b. Go to Settings > [Your Name] > Family Sharing.
    c. Verify that your son’s Apple ID is listed under Family Members.
    d. Confirm that Apple Music is enabled as a shared subscription.
    e. From your son’s Apple ID:
    f. Go to Settings > [Your Son’s Name] > Subscriptions.
    g. Check if Apple Music shows up as part of Family Sharing.
    h. If Apple Music is not showing up in your son’s subscriptions, Turn off Share Subscriptions in Family Sharing settings, then turn it back on. Restart the device and check again.

  6. Ensure iCloud and Apple ID Match Across Services:
    a. On your son’s Apple ID:
    b. Go to Settings > [Your Son’s Name] and ensure the Apple ID is correct.
    c. Open the Music app, tap Account (profile icon), and verify the same Apple ID is signed in.
    d. If the Apple ID in the Music app is different from the iCloud account, access might be denied.
    e. Sign out of the Music app and sign back in with your son’s Apple ID.

Hi again @jmb, I did some more research. Apple IDs under certain age limits are restricted in various ways including using services in 3rd party apps, which means they unfortunately can not be used for accessing Apple Music in djay.

The age limit differs per country as documented here:

Hello! It’s been a week since my last reply. I’m going to consider this topic completed for now so I can focus on others. However, please feel free to respond and we can definitely revisit this. Thanks!
