Auto-Transition Trigger on Hot Cues

:headphone: Feature Suggestion: Auto-Transition Trigger on Hot Cues

Add an optional “Auto Transition” Hot Cue action that automatically triggers a transition to the next track when playback reaches that cue.
This would make djay Pro’s automation smarter, more musical, and perfect for hybrid and semi-automated sets.

Visual Mockup

The idea is illustrated below: when the track hits the “Transition” Hot Cue (top right), it automatically plays the “Transition” action (bottom left).

Idea Summary

I would like to see a new Hot Cue Action feature that allows a track to automatically trigger a Transition when it reaches a specific Hot Cue point.

:backhand_index_pointing_right: When the playback reaches a Hot Cue labeled “Transition,” djay Pro would automatically start the crossfade or Neural Mix transition to the next deck — using the current transition settings (duration, FX, EQ mode, etc.).

Why It Makes Sense

This feature would make perfect use of djay Pro’s existing capabilities by combining them in a more intelligent and musical way.

Benefits:

  • :level_slider: Hands-free precision: DJs could plan transitions exactly where they should happen in the track (for example, during a breakdown or outro).
  • :brain: Smarter automation: Ideal for hybrid sets, background playlists, or radio-style mixes that still sound human and dynamic.
  • :control_knobs: No new interface required: It could be added as a simple “Transition” option when editing a Hot Cue.
  • :repeat_button: Full control: DJs could toggle the automation on/off per Hot Cue or deck, making it optional and flexible.

Example Use Case

  1. A DJ sets eight Hot Cues in a track.
  2. Hot Cue #8 is labeled “Transition.”
  3. When the track playback hits that point, djay Pro automatically triggers the transition to the next deck.
  4. The transition follows the user’s current FX, blend type, and duration settings.

Why It Matters

This would elevate djay Pro’s automation and AI-assisted mixing to a whole new level. It would allow DJs to pre-program transitions with precision while maintaining full creative control.

It’s especially useful for:

  • Pre-recorded sets or long playlists (bars, lounges, radio shows)
  • Hybrid DJ performances with partial automation
  • DJs who want consistent and seamless transitions across sets

This would be a great feature if it was fully implemented! Currently possible, but only as “workarounds”. Here are 2 workarounds to auto-trigger transitions:

#1 HOT CUES (duplicate MIDI entry)
In this example, the Hot Cue button (Note D#-1) is duplicated to also “Transition to the Inactive Deck”.

Notes:

  • Uses standard mixer transitions or Crossfader FX (if On).
  • Requires beat-matching skills, to not sound janky!

#2 END-POINTS (set in Automix)
When Automix is On, djay Pro will auto-transition at the end-point.

Notes:

  • Requires Automix is On and you manually load next song (or it uses whatever Automix auto-loaded).
  • Uses Automix transitions or Crossfader FX (if On).

Thanks for the suggestion @elton. Very interesting idea. I’ll share this with the devs for consideration.

Thanks @Michael_Wisniewski for sharing your existing workarounds as well.

I personally, always add Automix Start/End points to all of my tracks when I add the hot cues. I like the idea of being able to use existing hot cues though and to disconnect this from Automix. I think I would take this one step further and also allow the option to assign specific transition types to the “transition hot cue”.

Thanks @Michael_Wisniewski and @Slak_Jaw!

I am not a big fan of Automix :squinting_face_with_tongue:, so, I usually place a Transition cue around -62 seconds of my melodic tracks.

And then I manually/automatically perform a 32-bar transition to the other track.

Of course, having this implemented on djay Pro would save a lot of time when recording long sets.

Thanks for the appreciation!

PS: I used a lot of these transitions in this brand new set. A lot of fun using djay Pro to record it!

You’re welcome @elton. Thanks for the additional info.
