Using the latest DJ Pro AI on MacOS and the Pioneer DDJ-400 controller.
If I’m running an automix and have deck 1 playing with the deck volume slider set to around 75% and deck 2 is set to 0% OFF so that I can be previewing the next song on headphones, if the track on deck 1 finishes and deck 2 starts playing, the volume comes up at 100% even though the slider is set to the OFF position, which makes fading in impossible and I have to keep remembering to put the slider at the 5% position so I can do fade ins without blowing the speakers.
This has been a bug in the last few versions but I hadn’t had a chance to open a ticket and thought it would have been patched out, but it’s still happening in the current version.
Hi @Peter2022, sorry to hear you’re experiencing this issue. When creating new topics, please do not forget to answer the questions in our template with specific details about your setup not just “iPad” or “Latest Version”. This helps all of our community moderators to provide the most effective support to users with the utmost efficiency.
Device Model (ex. 2020 iPad Air 4th Gen): Version of operating system (ex. iOS 17.3.1): Version of djay (ex. 5.1.3): Hardware/controllers used (ex. Reloop Ready): Hardware Firmware Version (ex. 2.7):
Since this sounds repeatable, can you please try to capture a short video of the issue, upload it to your Google Drive/Dropbox, enable sharing permissions, then share a link to the video here? Thanks!
My suspicion, based on your description, is that you have Crossfader FX turned ON. With CFX ON, djay will ignore the Channel Fader positions so that it can perform the CFX operations properly. You can disable it in the CFX menu:
Hello! It’s been a week since my last reply. I’m going to consider this topic completed for now so I can focus on others. However, please feel free to respond and we can definitely revisit this. Thanks!
If I set the Channel Fader to just above zero, like 5%, it won’t do this and will respect the Channel Fader position, but if it’s at zero, it boosts it high.
The volume level in the video doesn’t sound too high because I made sure the master mixer volume was low so it doesn’t damage the speakers, but in the middle of a set, this can be a huge problem.
When I’m playing, there are times that I’m called away from the DJ booth for several minutes, so I keep an Automix running so that if I’m away, the music can continue. There are occasions where I may forget to bring the Channel Fader up on the second deck when I’ve stepped away and then this happens. Plus there are other times when I need to let one track fade out totally and then want to bring the next track in on a fade, but if the slider is set to zero it just goes max volume immediately.
Hi @Peter2022, thanks for the video this is very helpful. I double checked with engineering, and this is indeed expected behavior when using Automix. The idea is when using Automix, the app will mix for you, so it will control the crossfader and also move line faders up if they are at zero.
You may also want to consider adjusting the Sound Settings to reduce the maximum volume output to your sound system. I hope that helps!
Hi again @Peter2022, I have discovered a workaround that might explain why this seemed to work previously.
If you have the opposite Deck channel fader set to all the way down to zero, djay will automatically increase the volume to match what you have set on the current Deck.
However, if you have the channel fader set slightly off from zero (say 1/4 volume), then the volume will not be adjusted when transitioning. Please try this for yourself and confirm if it works for you.
Hi @Slak_Jaw, yes I’ve mentioned this in my original post and reply. If the fader is set slightly above zero (5% or 1/4 volume etc) then it doesn’t adjust volume when transitioning. In previous versions of DJay it wouldn’t adjust volume when it was set to zero either, but something changed a few versions back and now it does. Could we perhaps have an options toggle for this?
