Averaging 125% CPU after a few hours of DJing...

  • Apple M1 Max 2021
  • 15.0.1 (24A348)
  • Version of djay: 5.2.3
  • Hardware/controllers used: FLX4

Hey! Have recently got into weddings… these 8 hour experiences have come with some learning curves.

One thing I can’t seem to figure out is why djay CPU level always gets massive as the night goes on… and I can feel it slowing down, takes a few seconds to load things, moving volume on mixer takes a half second to translate to speakers… I definitely have a capable computer but it seems like the program isn’t dropping its cache or something… any ideas?

Sincerely,
Matthew

Hi Matthew, please update to 5.2.4 and let us know if the issue persists. It fixes an issue where iCloud syncing could slow down the app.

Hello Anders,
I have the same problem with my MacBook Pro 2019 (2,4 GHz 8-Core Intel Core i9), have installed the latest version of Djay (5.2.4), including the latest MacOS version (15.0.1 (24A348)).
After 2-4 hours the software becomes slower and slower, in the end it is so slow that you can no longer work with it properly.
Please fix this bug urgently.
Thx

Hi @Spuckie,

  1. Can you please capture a Sample Process using Activity Monitor on your Mac while you are experiencing the issue?
    a. In the Activity Monitor app on your Mac, click the System diagnostics options pop-up menu, then choose Sample Process to create a report on a selected process over a period of 3 seconds.
  2. Then upload the report to your Google Drive/Dropbox, enable sharing permissions, then share a link to the file here.

Thanks!

Will try to capture next time it happens, though didn’t notice any issues with yesterday’s 8h wedding.

Thanks!
Matthew

Sounds good. Thanks for the follow up @orangeoctopusjim

Hello,
I have now run the analysis 4 times in the course of the evening.
Here is the link to the files.
I hope you can find and fix the problem.

Thanks!

Thanks @Spuckie this is very helpful. I’ve passed this onto engineering for further review.

I’m having the same problem.
I play at a lot of events and weddings and at least 4 hour sets.
After 2 hours it becomes very clear that everything is working more and more sluggish: spinning beachball, cues not working properly, loops jumping randomly, etc…
I thought this was an issue that was fixed with the last update. But it’s not……

I’m using a MacBook Pro M1 512Gb/16Gb with DDJ-REV5.
After 2 hours the CPU usage gets to a point where it is constantly above 120%.
And therefore, as mentioned here by others as well, DJay becomes unusable…

Hi @delaSarge, thanks for the info and details about your setup.

Thanks!

Hi @delaSarge, we need the actual Sample Process not a screenshot. Please follow the procedure shared previously. Also, you could update to djay 5.2.5 to see if that solves your issue. Thanks!

Hello,
unfortunately, with version 5.2.5, things have gotten even worse.
Starting DJay takes at least 2-3 minutes, after that, every click, every loading of a title takes another minute.
I can’t use the software like this.
Not to mention editing tags.
Please fix the performance problem urgently, the software is unusable as it is.
I have loaded analysis data from November 3 into the cloud folder.

The files were created at different times (loading a song, editing tags, etc.).

Since it is not possible to work with the current version, please give me the option of downgrading to version 5.1.7 or 5.2.

Thx!

Hi @Spuckie, sorry for the delayed reply. I was out of the office for a few days. Thanks for the additional info and files. I’ve passed these onto engineering for further review.

  1. Do the performance issues disappear if you disable iCloud Syncing for djay?
  2. Unfortunately, the only way to revert to a previous version of djay is if you have a full system backup via something like TimeMachine.

Hi again @Spuckie, please try the following process:

  1. Quit djay.
  2. Make sure you have a backup of your djay Media Library.djayMediaLibrary file copied to an external drive or cloud location.
  3. If you had previously disabled iCloud for djay Pro in System settings, make sure it is re-enabled for djay Pro.
  4. Open the app Terminal.app
  5. Run this command defaults write com.algoriddim.djay-iphone-free CMCResetCloudKitState -bool true
  6. Launch djay

This will reset the cloudkit state and should clear up the issue. Thanks!

Hi @Spuckie, I’m following up on my post from two weeks ago. Did the above procedure solve your issue? Thanks!

@Slak_Jaw @Spuckie @delaSarge It did for me - thank you kindly. Warhammer painting competition in the morning and first corporate Christmas party in the evening - no problems

Thanks for confirming @orangeoctopusjim
