Would it be possible to add recursive browsing for Finder folders? Eg showing files in the main folder and all its subfolders in the browser? I have tracks organized over 30 years in folders and subfolders and when djing open-format just want to see them all at one time often. They are organized many ways, not just like the example below.
Alternatively, there could be a keyword search “files” with folders as target and it could bring up all files within the main folder and subfolder in the browser. This is the way Finder does it. Or multi-select folders. Maybe there is a way with search operators, but I’m not seeing it?
Djay is so good at beat grid for old off the grid stuff and I want to get on it fully. Currently though, this is super limiting to stay locked in and picking new tracks when djing on the edge… it’s almost the only thing keeping me more on other software.
Example structure (I know Djay finds key/bpm, but I have many genre subgenre folders Etc):
_Key A main folder
_ Under 100 bpm
_100 to 116 bpm
- 117 to 129 bpm
_ 130 and up

Thanks for the suggestion @deepspace. I have forwarded this to the dev team for consideration.

I’m having the same problem. I tried using a script for itunes/music to recreate the folder structure but then realized that itunes doesn’t read FLAC.
A “list all files in subfolders” option that I can click on the parent folder to allow me to fully migrate my DJ software.

I found an alternative solution to list songs from folders and their subfolders.
Using mp3tag I created an action that copies the path of a file to the comment tag id3.
Considering my folder structure: /Volume/HDD/Music/[Year]/[Genre]/[Albums]/[CD1-x]/[filename].wav
This allows me to make a smart playlist in Djay that lists only POP songs using the comment filter “/POP/”. I can also create an additional smart playlist that only shows me POP songs from the year 2000 using the comment filter “/2000/POP/”.
The heavy lifting is making the smart playlists and using Mp3Tag every time you add new material.
It’s a shame that Djay doesn’t have the ability to list all files in a parent folder and also the child folders recursively.
Has there been a work around for this yet?
I organize folders by style, and then have playlist folders in each master folder.
I feel like i should be able to see everything in subfolders, but this isn’t the case.
right? or am i missing something.
I agree!
djay Pro needs an option to show songs within subfolders when adding folders from external media to Files.
For example, my external drive has a main “DJ” folder with subfolders like “80s,” “90s,” “House,” etc. Clicking “DJ” shows no entries. Clicking “80s” might display a few stray files but not tracks inside deeper subfolders within “80s” like “Hair Band” or “New Wave.”
This is how most DJs organize their music (I think)—djay Pro should recognize and display all subfolder contents properly (please)

In DJay Pro, it’s currently not possible to list audio files in subfolders. To view them, you have to go folder by folder (very impractical for a live performance).
The only option I’ve found so far is the one I posted in my previous answer. This involves adding the file path to the comment tag of each file using mp3tag. Then, create a smart playlist that filters by the path in the comment.
I think this is the only option until they officially add the feature.

I’d love to get this feature also… An option to see all tracks from a folder + all its subfolders recursively would be great.

this is indeed a massive feature from serato.
Voted!
Thanks for the vote @dj_estrela
I tried out DJay for the first time today, the free version/not starting the trial. This was one of the biggest negative / immediate reactions I had. I want an option to ‘show sub folder/crate’ tracks. Just like Serato. I use Serato and I am very used to this. It’s nice that they can be in a different colour too (blue & grey)

This thread was started 2 years ago, and still nothing? Really?
Forget a vote, this is a simple quality of life thing that seems like the obvious behavior for any DJ software in my opinion.
Do the staff or devs really have some type of philosophy about restricting basic ease of use until a certain number of votes appear? Do they even understand the issue even is and what all of us have been trying to say in this forum?
It’s just copy paste replies from them with no indication of real understanding or intent to listen to their users, even for just a simple little issue like this.
