Can drivers affect performance on other controllers?

  • MacBook Air M4
  • Current ish OS
  • Djay 5.6.8
  • DDJ REV5/REV7

I borrowed a REV7 for a bit and ended up hating the experience. But I’m curious if there is anything I should do for Djay Pro or my MacBook if I’m not using it again. I did install the REV7 drivers for the jog wheel display to work, so I’ll be removing that. But I did have a moment where it felt like my djay pro was a little confused. Things like waveforms going blank and music not vinyl stopping when I hit pause.

Before I make a full on support post, is there any reason the system would be weird about going back to my REV5 after using the REV7?

Hi @SpEd, good question to ask before digging deeper. On macOS, most DJ controllers are class-compliant and don’t need separate drivers, so the REV5 doesn’t depend on anything you installed for the REV7. Removing that software won’t hurt anything on the djay side.

What’s more likely is that djay’s audio setup is still configured for the REV7. I’d do a quick clean switch:

  1. Quit djay and uninstall the REV7 software using Pioneer DJ’s instructions.

  2. Restart your Mac. This resets the USB and MIDI services.

  3. Connect the REV5 and open djay.

  4. Go to Settings > Devices and click Reset to Defaults so djay restores the correct routing for the REV5.

If the waveforms still go blank or pause doesn’t vinyl-stop after that, please let me know and we can dig a little deeper. Thanks!

Hello! It’s been a week since my last reply. I’m going to consider this topic completed for now so I can focus on others. However, please feel free to respond and we can definitely revisit this. Thanks!
