Change Sample Packs via MIDI or Hot Key

I think it would be great to be able to switch sample packs in real time. Sixteen samples I use on a daily basis are barely enough, and, for example, when I need to animate some talks, I would like to have a separate page with applause, laughter, and similar samples. I assumed the only way to do this was to create several sample packs and switch between them. How cool would it be to map that to keys — select favorite sample pack 1, pack 2, etc., or use a MIDI command to change sample packs (next, previous)? I found that the same topic dates back to 2015, but it’s now closed. I’m surprised that nobody uses samples that much, or maybe people just use separate devices or methods with Ableton Link, etc.?

Thanks for the suggestion @Akrilovy. Good ideas. I have forwarded this to the dev team for consideration. In the meantime, please use the blue Vote button at the top left of this page so we can gauge user demand for this feature. Thanks!

I just used the search function for this exact topic and +1 it.

I’d use the samples far more if I was able to easily switch packs through a midi command, rather than a clunky mouse. I get easily bored of using the same samples. I think it’s a good idea,

Thanks for the additional feedback and vote @Archiesbald

Please add a MIDI command to change sample packs, or make packs with multiple pages. It’s very difficult to reach for your laptop every time to select a new pack of samples.

@Orbien thanks for the suggestion. I have already shared this with the dev team for consideration. Please use the blue Vote button at the top left so we can gauge user demand for this.

YOUR SUGGESTION:

  1. I’d like to be able to MIDI map changing the sampler banks on the fly. The pulldown menu is easier and faster to use than Serato or Traktor’s sampler methods which I appreciate. However I use auxiliary devices for one-shot samples (Ex: MPC). I’d love to be able to ONLY use the software in front of me for everything, and often these sampler bank changes need to happen rather quickly. There’s a creative routine performance angle here too, but even something as simple as a “< >” button next to the pulldown that could be MIDI mapped would be amazing.

For example: Intros for private events, I prefer to load rapid fire song changes into a sampler to circumvent having to load songs between decks and risk pressing a wrong button combo. Then after the intro is complete, I switch sample bank to one with only the major event songs (ex: first dance) with any unique edits for dance choreo are done in advance.
