Don’t worry, all of these “clean room” vibe-coded apps i’ve looked at are 99% only the UI and CRUD forms side of things (ie externals/interface), and totally miss the “internals” that are 80% or more of the complexity and IP.

Yes today…. But vibe coding seems already a term from the past. Also as a developer myself it’s a “here we go again” argument. Every now end then you have these discussions between devs, “you’re not a real dev”, “that’s not a real language” etc etc.

When you’re talking about survival (a.k.a. agenda term “sustainablility”), It’s always about the outcome.

Imagine a piece of hardware, like a macbook in the year 2030, that could just provide the tools you needed, on the spot, to get the job done. Companies like Apple or Microsoft would not hesitate one second to deliver this. (If it was only for the argument “the market forced us to do it too.)

Now, the “imagine” part is already done by these guys don’t you think so?

Thanks for sharing @jefuqs

Does this AI stuff code all these apps without stealing source code from other software? as far as im aware that code is classed as commercial property, which puts it in the realms of copyright law.

Where is the AI bot taking the code from? is it inventing the source code itself?

O M G, i just knew this day would come.
I just RECREATED Djay Pro’s Sync. Yes i mean the famous Fluid Beatgrid.
On this first attempt it is of course not as reliable as Djay Pro nor using the same technique. But, i’m sharing the info to strengthen the point i’m making above.

I will mention, not to get everybody upset or in shock: i’m a developer and this is for personal use only. For me, my music files, my music is the center of my passion and software and hardware are “just” the tools i use to share it with the audience. I am in NO way cancelling my algoriddim subscription, not even close. Just like the need reliable hardware for gigs, Algoriddim has proven* to be a reliable software partner. The tools i’m building myself are for prepping.

*it once crashed during a full dancefloor but it restarted so fast that the result was that the people on the dancefloor thought it was a typical disruptive trick of me to get their attention…

I’m not afraid of A.i.. But i know it will interfere with carreer paths of people. I once had a major wake up call as a Macromedia (Adobe) Flash developer by non other than Steve Jobs. He took it personal to address the “problem” the Flash browser plugin. And why Flash should not be supported by iOS.
We as users of the software knew the true reason: the iOS App Store. Back then Flash apps and games were made and they were popular as well online.

And so the result of all that was clear, Apple had enough power to make me change my daily projects.

ok one last example: letting tracks run, not just synced looping…

They do not need to steal the source code, just the public available stuff will do. But you are right about questioning where this is all coming from. One of our own servers about a year ago went completely unreachable for users (our clients). After investigation we found millions of entries in our logs of claude bot related stuff, coming from different ip addresses. So yes, typical “Uber” disruptive tactics. But hey mate, “you published the data yourself” right?

Kind of makes me think of certain shop owners, who don’t want you to photograph their products in their store. Or a taking a picture of a restaurants’ menu with the pricing on it? Is it a gray line? Is it only a moral question?

I was using djay Pro’s song recommendations to help prepare sets, but I wanted more control over the suggestions. Filters, parameters and ways to narrow things down to specific timelines genres etc the music I actually wanted to play.

I got impatient waiting for those features to land, so I started building my own tool around my request.

That little project eventually grew into AXIOM, a full DJ app with a heap of tools:

  • Set building and playlist preparation
  • Exporting sets to Serato and djay Pro
  • Library Health, duplicate management and file renaming
  • A built-in DAW with stem separation and BPM automation
  • Live recommendations while you DJ

It’s a Frankenstein of Differnt Apps we have under one roof grown out of things I wanted in my own workflow, from sorting the library to preparing a set, making an edit and playing the gig.

I’ve made it free to try for 30 days no card required. Give it a proper run and see how it fits the way you DJ.

If you like it and want to support the project, that’d be appreciated. If it’s not for you, fair enough.

Have a look: AXIOM PRO 1.0.3 | 30 Days Free | DJ OWE

This app looks nice. But you’re putting yourself in the same boat as Adobe by not giving people a way to purchase and own this. People are subscribed to death. Plus, people can now more easily replicate what they need, if backed into a corner. I’ve now built multiple programs that I’m using on a daily basis (vibe, of course). (I can also properly code in C++, but honestly, things have certainly changed). Just some thoughts from a working DJ.

We still seem to be stuck in the economic model of the Phoebus Cartel…

I just want to make sure that I correctly understand the argument here @Scott1. You’re okay with paying for a subscription to an AI coding app so it can be used to copy djay, but you’re not okay with the djay subscription itself? Or is the argument that if you could pay a one time purchase for djay instead of subscription, you would no longer be inclined to use an AI coding tool to copy it?

Best move ever. It had more security issues than all OS’s combined.

You are just repeating Apple. I already said that’s what Apple said.

My argument has nothing to do with Djay, because at least you guys offer it for a fair price. This is subjective, of course. Would I love an option to buy, yes. 100%! But, I was referring to the program linked above that comment. And of course I’m ok spending 20 bucks a month if I can make my life easier, in a hundred different ways with an AI app. That’s time of my life I’m getting back. Easy call. No. I’m more than happy with Djay. But people vibe-coding apps and then wanting to put us on the subscription-leash. Well. That’s a different story. There’s still work involved, even with Vibe-coding. People should be able to make some money with their time. Subs are just getting old.

Ah, okay. Thanks for clarifying.

And I added a bit more for clarification. No, Djay sits happily in my ‘cost of doing business’ category. And you’re a company I trust and appreciate the constant updates and communication with your customers! Not to be too kind. :stuck_out_tongue: But it’s how I feel.

FYI: I’ve been coding for a while too. That’s my own opinion.

I hated Flash before Steve.
